In Chinatown in New York City you can buy fake Rolex watches and fake designer handbags (Prada, etc...) Some small "mom and pop" stores will sell it to you but I have also seen this one place where everyone is selling out on the streets. They have one person whom carries a fake Rolex watch and shows it to you. If you like it, they take you to another area and another person sells it to you. they also have people "looking out" for police officers. If a police officer is spotted or suspected, then the entire operation shuts down for a half hour or so.
There are also people there selling bootleg DVDs - I saw a DVD for a movie for sale for a move that was just released and was only in the theaters for two days so I bought it just to see the quality (it was only $5.00). It even had a very pro looking DVD cover artwork. So I took it home and played it. It was recorded with a camcorder in a movie theater. I don't feel so bad about my purchase. My friends got a good laugh about it
The last time I was in Manhattan (spring of 2006) there were no iPOD clones for sale in these stores (or from street gangs) but things can change real fast I guess...
