I have Vista and it's not as bad if you have the resources to run it, but to be honest the only really useful features are the search box and DX10.

Are you sure your USB ports are working right? This doesn't seem to be an OS but a hardware issue. Also try another cable, the cables most players come with are faulty.

As for the song names, makd511 is right, it's due to missing ID3 tags. You can recreate them with software like MP3 Tag Tools, or you can use Winamp's Auto Tag if you don't want to do them by hand.
