I'll try to help answer your questions.
1. viDrop should do the trick for you find. I've seen you've already used it. I'm not entirely sure on how it works as I haven't used it personally. I would suggest posting a question in the thread about it or looking around to see if someone else has asked that question before.
2. As far as I know, none of the MPx players out there read .pdf files natively. So far, they can only read .txt files. Is there a SAMPLE book file in your player?
3. Not charging through USB is most likely due to a
faulty USB cable. I would suggest try to get another USB cable to see if that works. Also try different ports on your computer as well to make sure it's not the USB port in your computer.
