Have you tried another USB cable as well?

If that fails, I'm pretty sure the problem is with the memory chip inside your player. You should be able to do the checkdisk so if you can't then there's most likely problems. But try another USB cable and make sure you plug it straight into the USB port of your computer and not into a USB hub and see if that makes any difference.
