For me, there's no contest. Free/Open Source software for Windows is freely available anywhere if you know where to look. Apple's business model relies on locking the purchaser into buying expensive Apple peripherals and software. No, I don't like that windows is closed-source, but at least I have lots of choice as to what I can run on it. This will never be the case with Apple.
Saying Apple hardware is more reliable is stupid, as they all run on Intel nowadays so there's no difference. You could install windows on your mac or osx on your wintel box if they didn't go out of their way to see that you can't do that.
What kills Linux is the Tower of Babel that is all the hundreds of mutually incompatible distros all competing with each other. Nobody is going to take it seriously until they all unite under one banner and all speak the same language. Then start writing killer apps for it. They could bury M$ and Apple both.
