Angry Choppy video on the "slide panel"

hello again. i will be goin to the countryside for a week so i decided to download and convert some movies to watch on my "slide panel" PMP. so i selected:
video: Xvid
bitrate: 512

audio: mp3
bitrate: 128

and the image is awfully choppy and desynced with the sound! (i tried with the movie Bolt)
but Pokemon episodes (~30 min) work perfectly!
i tried the Multimedia Transcoding tool, which produces MP4 files, but with the same result.
i tried the above, but with 384 kbps video bitrate = same result
i also tried the above, but with 256 kbps video bitrate = slightly reduced choppiness, but less quality and BTW i only watched the first few minutes so i dont know how it acts later during the movie.
i will try MP4 but with 384 kbps bitrate. in the meantime, does anyone have a solution.

Final word: THATS WHY I HATE SUNPLUS! MY ANYKA PLAYER WOULD DIGEST ANY MOVIE!
but sadly the headphone jack doesnt work and the speaker is crap.

**EDIT!!** i think i got it. i tried with 512 kbps video bitrate, but also with 22 FPS. indeed, it still hiccups every now and then, but not as often. so now i will batch convert my movies to 400 kbps, see how nice they look and how often they hiccup and i will post here.

BTW i use the Any Video Converter 2.7.5, which is free.

**UPDATE!!** ok i will stick to 384 kbps video and 20 FPS cos im tired of trying. but for TV shows (i will try Sailor Moon and Pokemon) i will use 512 kbps video and normal FPS. gonna re-update with the results (although most probably no-one is interested )
