Yeh, I agree. I have noticed that with the older MP4 players a few years ago, the players would be released and that's it! No more further updates to the firmware! Just get the player out the door, to the market and as long as it works, that's it.

They always advertise "firmware upgradable" but no new firmware gets released so it's pointless. I guess that's another big difference from a no-brand MP4 player from China to those branded players like Sony or iPods which do have firmware being released....... It's unfortunate but I guess it all comes down to $$$.

Most of these "MP4 manufacturers" are essentially "MP4 assemblers". They just buy the chipset, boards, memory chips and casing from different other manufacturers and assemble them, then sell them on. So the chipsets are manufactured from somewhere else and to get it upgraded, they have to pay and spend more money on development. So why when they can spend it on a new model player instead?
