Hi Daniel,
My model has the RK2729 chip (I think but not opened it up yet), and runs Linux OS, with 2Gb memory. I has Adobe Mobile reader loaded from new and it works fine for the pdfs I have loaded. I could try to get you a set of the firmware off my unit if I can follow the directions of earlier posters in this topic, but may not be for a few days yet.
I think the manufacturer could be Chuwi
????|??mp3|??mp4-??????????? who are now making an a much improved Android OS on RK2918 chip with cam and wifi, but an earlier model which I think was Model E700 (now replaced by higher speced P700) has the same casing as ours but no current reference now to ours (made late 2010/early 2011) on that site. There is some info on
www.slatedroid.com, and on
How to Clone Rockchip Firmware | eHow.com , and on http:
gadgetsland.net where some of the earlier posters to this thread did purchase their version of our unit.
However another site
Mebook Touch Color eBook Reader Features | Price lists the WHITE version as "
Mebook Touch is the latest color touchscreen eBook Reader which has released from Chinavasion"; amd its hardware spec is identical to my black one.
I am happy with my unit (with no cam) except that I would like to make it wifi enabled. My recent posting were to find out -
1) If the RK2729 units can be rooted to host Android OS; or
2) leaving thje original Linux OS on, can Linus drive a USB wifi adaptor (with a suitable linux driver) to make it communicate through wifi to my home wifi router? I am Linux-challenged
Is there someone out there who can advise me on this Linux/Wifi/RK2729 issue?
