Default Help idenntifying MP4's firmaware - See pic

I believe I have been misled in purchasing a 4 GB MP4 played from ebay by a dealer blown-z. I wish i would have found this forum prior to purchasing. I am unable to load more than 2 GB of files on the device. When I format using winxp(or other format tools) it reads as 3.99 MB. I have formatted this a million times before I found others are having the same issue. I do have the ability to crack the case so I can look at chip but would prefer not to because I would like to return it or get some money refunded and dont want to void any warranties.
Here is the firmware and pic of the player.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-4G-4GB-MP3-M...QQcmdZViewItem

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks

flatanz55,
All this information gives is the version number 3.5.37 and there may well be over a 1000 variations of 3.5.37 now.

You will get more information from your players settings menu under Firmware Version.

flatanz55,
I am not sure why you posted, what is it you want to do or confirm?
If you are trying to find out if your player is hacked the firmware is not involved it is to do with manipulation of the memory chip MBR and partition table.
If you do not want open your player to check it's true size try this method of removing the hack.

I wanted to confirm the data size so I could make a case aganst the guy.
i tried the method and it appears to be 1 gb but I thought I was able to copy more data then that, almost 2 GB? I notice the only partition the MP3 player disk manager will allow is 1. How can I get back that other GB?

flatanz55, If that is the case I would say it is only a 1GB.

Here is the reccommended process for a full refund including shipping

How to get full refund and how to expose fraudulent sellers?
Check if the seller is still actively listing the same counterfeit items right now!
After confirmimg receiving counterfeit item, you should complete the Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described process dispute after 10 days of item closing date so that eBay or Paypal is alerted of the development of fraudulent situation. If you have paid by Paypal, you can also complete the Paypal Buyer Complaint Process to get refund from Paypal within 45 days.
Since you have NOT been provided with what you have paid for, it does not falls into seller's return policy. You are covered by the 90 days protection period under eBay Standard Purchase Protection Program.
Unless these fraudsters would risk their eBay account for permanent suspension, they will for sure be in contact with you quicker than anything else. You then regain control of the situation and the power is again on your side.
Counterfeit is FRAUD, do not settle with the seller unless the seller is paying for all the associated return shipping cost of the item.
You still own the right to provide negative feedback against the seller to alert the fraudulent situation to warn other eBayers.
Provided that you have provided negative feedback to the seller and if subsequently the seller provides you with an unfair retaliatory negative feedback, you have a case to lodge against the seller by requesting eBay for feedback removal to fully protect your feedback.
Effectively you will get your money back either from the seller or from eBay/Paypal. Most important by going through this, you have assisted the process of exposing fradulent sellers on eBay, which will result in permanent suspension of the seller's account. In most countries, FRAUD is a CRIMINAL offense and injunctions may be brought against the fraudsters to prevent them from moving on under a different name after being banned. Thus, you may choose to contact your law enforcement agencies or each respective brand manufacturers in your region, to report counterfeit and provide them with your item detail and the source of the item.

I do not think you should worry about opening the player as the sellers warranty does not apply because he has not provided you with the goods you paid for.
You should also get a 3rd party to verify the chips true size and take a good quality high resolution photo showing the chips serial number, the best way to do this is to scan the player.

Tadad1,
I had a very bad experience with Ebay.com.au. I once bought a SD card from a seller advertising it as located in Australia. When it came from HK, I posted a negative feedback and in retaliation the seller gave me a -ve feedback stating I did not pay for the goods. I contacted Ebay.com.au stating I paid by Paypal which ebay could easily verify. Unfortunately ebay refused to remove the negative retaliation stating there is nothing they will do!
Cheers

henrytui , regarding feedback removal, it is not within ebay's policy to remove it unless it meets the guidelines listed here http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/...ithdrawal.html
http://pages.ebay.com/help/feedback/...-feedback.html

Pretty much nothing you can do to remove it.
