I recently purchased another 4GB player online here in New Zealand. I have found it is the only way to stop the traders from selling them.

This is the 3rd such player I have purchased and all of them have stopped listing the fakes and I have received a full refund in all case. Initial reactions when confronted as you would imagine are denial and disbelief and even anger, most drag their feet about rectifying the problem but the evidence is overwhelming so eventually they comply.

Not so the last seller, he was quick to dismantle one of his players and confirm that they were indeed hacked, he immediatly removed all 4GB listings he had and refunded my purchase. Then he contacted all his past buyers of 4GB players with the following email,

I am very sorry but I have some bad news.

I have discovered on Tuesday 19th that the 4GB players that I was supplied with are what is known as "Hacked" players.

My supplier in China promised me that the players he was sending were genuine 4GB players with 2 X 2GB chips on board,

But the players only had 1 X 2GB chip programmed to show a capacity of 4GB.

If you load more than 2GB on to it, it doesnt work.

This is called a "hack" and you will find 99.9% of the 4GB nano lookalikes on Trade me are this sort of player,

I imported the 4GB's in good faith and I have been ripped off.

Rather than pass on the rip off to you and other trade me members I have taken them off sale and I am informing the people who have already bought them.

I really am very sorry about this as I am sure you were very excited about getting a 4GB player.

I realise that it is a Christmas present and we are so close to Christmas that it must be as devastating for you to hear as it is for me to have to tell you this.


I cannot supply you with a 4GB player, The player you have is a very good unit but unfortunately my supplier misled me as to the capacity of the memory.

The player you have can be reprogrammed (IE the program that makes the player appear as though it has 4GB of memory can be removed) and it can be made to work perfectly as a 2GB player. which of course is what it is.

Or I can supply you with a different 2GB player. Please note that once the hack is removed the player you have is a perfectly good 2GB (very good in fact!)

If you decide to take me up on this offer I can refund $130 of the $230 you paid (2GB players are usually 130 -150 on trade me) or if you would not like a 2GB player I can refund the whole amount, $ 230.

Hope that suits and please dont take the chance on another import MP4 4GB.

I very much doubt you will find a genuine 4GB model on Trade Me unless it is a brand name player like ipod or i river.

Most traders would rather sell the hacked players and not follow up after you find it will load 4GB, but corrupts the files over 2GB, or crashes when you try to play the files.

But I try to do the right thing for my customers and I think that this is the right thing to do in this case.

It breaks my heart to have to tell you this a few days from the big day, but I would rather do that than have the player opened as a present and not work properly.

Please email, text or call me back and let me know if you would like the player reprogrammed to 2GB player with a $130 refund or send it back for a full refund.

Please check my auctions as I have removed three 4Gb's from sale in the last couple of days and contacted people who have bought 4GBs from me to tell them this bad news.

I have CC'd this Email to Terry Death who is a trade me member (tadad) and an expert on MP4 players and can verify the above if you need further confirmation.

Once again my apologies for this disappointment so close to Xmas .

But people like Blown-Z trying to do what he does needs to be taken down and hard.

wow, im sure his supplier has ripped him off with a nice wholesale price tag aswell

probably got from hong kong, always get them from china as they are usually made on demand by the trader and sent straight from factory to trader and directly to you.
