Is there a Whitelist?

I'm one of the few lucky ones I guess, in that I found this site before making a purchase (just by checking the feedback on one of the sellers).

I'm looking to buy one of these cheap players and I'm wondering if there are any honest sellers who list them as what they really are?

Since it turns out practially all 4gb players are a scam I'll be looking at 2gb ones. Also, for the record:
- I don't mind that they're Chinese made. To date I've had quite positive experiences with 'cheap' chinese electronics.
- I don't mind that they're not shipped locally, and I'm not pressed for time.
- At the price they're listed I don't even mind not having a warranty.

What I do care about is that if I bid on a 2gb player, I want it to be a 2gb player and not a hacked 512mb or 1gb one.
So has anyone dealt with a seller they can recommend?

Several good sellers on eBay are campus111, pig-pony, and tinydealdirect. The first two also have websites of their own, www.campus111.com and www.pigpony.com. Their players are genuine to their stated capacity, and even though their shipping takes awhile (longest for me was almost a month), you'll be satisfied when you finally receive the players. Also is Uxcell, a reputable company of these players. There are links to them all over the site and although I have never bought from them, they are supposed to be good. Hope I've helped.

I've had good luck with campus111 with a 256MB+SD player. I also purchased a 512MB player from d$seller that was just as advertised.

I bought my 2GB Chinapod from ProTechStore on Ebay. My wife has been using it and its memory is loaded. All the videos and MP3 worked fine. Matter of fact, my wife dumped the memory so she can get some new stuff in.

ProTechstore also has a website www.protechstore.com as well.

Hi PleXo - I actually have a favour to ask - please could you put the firmware for your 1GB players on the download page to this page?

Thanks - have already put you down as a favourite seller.

UPDATE: January 16, 2008: I was sent two new Sandisk Cards with a receipt from a retail store in the u.s. apologizing for the incident saying he was unaware of the counterfeit nature of the cards.

ebay seller pig-pony is who sold me the cards (which is pigpony.com and affiliated with campus111.com usa111.com )- i verified with sandisk that the cf cards i purchased from pigpony were counterfeit

here's all the info on my case:

...

i bought two sandisk extreme III 4 gb cf compact flash memory cards from ebay seller pig-pony and found them to be counterfeit- checked with sandisk corporation and they agreed and started an investigation. i filed a claim with paypal as well.

they sent me several emails saying they never sent the cards because they never got the money coz the paypal claim was preventing them from getting the money. well first off they first claimed they sent the cards and it might take a while (the tracking # was bogus coz nothing was ever done with that #) then they said they never sent it. well last week i received the cards from china via usps global express and i was asked to sign to prove delivery was made. so i opened the boxes and found them to not look right- the font etc. when i transferred some test images with my sandisk external drive (they cards showed up as toshiba cards) i then called sandisk and gave them the upc code and serial #s (then i noticed they were the same which clinched the verdict for me) and they verified they were counterfeit.

back to more info on the counterfeit cards:

both boxes had the same upc codes and serial numbers:

SDCFX3-4096-902

6 19659 02242 6

they used a different font and boxes and products did not match up as far as placement of info
