rakashmiri , the player listed is not a genuine apple ipod. But basically, it looks to be just another nano-clone. And it would be impossible to tell if it is hacked or not, until you received it. The user interface would be just about the same as the usual nano-clones too.

If you do intend to purchase a genuine ipod, i'll suggest not getting them from ebay. The chinese manufacturers nowadays are able to manufacture exactly the same outlook/casing with the 1.2" screen and exact ipod packaging.

Perhaps you could get them off some reliable retail stores for genuine stuff.

As the saying goes, if the price is too good to be true, it usually isin't true.

If you look at the ad, this player is not being sold as a genuine Apple iPod. It's the same i-Platinum (full metal) as sold by UXCELL, designed to look just like an iPod except in name (fooled you though, didn't it?!). If it had the name, then it would be counterfeit. As it stands, the seller is suspect in my eyes, because under two accounts, they are asking buyers to give them positive feedback (reputation building) before receiving any product. I bid on one of their players and have yet to see someone who actually received any product. See my full report in this forum in the thread "Is this a bad seller or not? I'm a newbie. I fell for temptation and bought a 1GB player from him the 9th of January. Obviously it is too early to have received anything. And I am very aware it might be a scam. But I will let you know if I receive anything.

Actually, that comment was directed at lattesurf, not you, who seemed to think the player in question was being sold as a genuine iPod. As to whether or not its worth getting that item, I'd say not. I'm basing that on the fact that I purchased a similar item from the same seller (under a different name) a while back, and I've yet to pay for it, because I've yet to find a single person who received a player from them. And I have emailed some of FATBOY5434's buyers and all have left "advanced feedback" on request of the seller, as was done under the seller's other account, "TAMAINC". The low price is very inviting but that may be the lure....


I'm glad that you understood the great risk involved before you bought your player (as opposed to the usual "after" that most people go through). Particularly the risk that Paypal will leave you hung out to dry if you file a claim of not receiving the unit, since their $25 processing fee is more than the basic cost of the player (assuming you bought it at 24.99us). Let us know whether you received a player from FATBOY5434 and how it is if you have. I'm pretty damn sure this seller sold under other names and reopened new accounts, most likely to hide bad feedback records. It might be surprising if they weren't scammers, because they're even undercutting uxcell on the very same iplatinums.

I just bought one of those 2nd generation metal MP4 players from UXCell. It's pretty much just like the 1st generation, but with a nicer metal case and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack instead of a 2.5mm jack, which is also better. I would recommend the 2nd gen player over the 1st.

Sorry if I did, I had read "the player listed is not a genuine apple ipod.... it looks to be just another nano-clone", assuming (not that you thought it was) but that meant you thought it might have been presented as a genuine apple ipod.

jsevinsk: I also just bought the same player from UXCELL. Havent received it yet, but after dealing with my Nano clone, I am now officially staying away from players with a 2.5mm jack!

Oh, a couple more things. The 1st gen players have the headphone jack on the side, which makes it difficult to fit them into an iPod Nano case. The 2nd gen players have the headphone jack on the bottom, which makes it easy. Also, the 2nd gen players have the more-common mini-USB jack, but the 1st gen players have the not-so-common extra-small mini-USB jack. (I don't know their official names.)
