rakashmiri , the player listed is not a genuine apple ipod. But basically, it looks to be just another nano-clone. And it would be impossible to tell if it is hacked or not, until you received it. The user interface would be just about the same as the usual nano-clones too.

If you do intend to purchase a genuine ipod, i'll suggest not getting them from ebay. The chinese manufacturers nowadays are able to manufacture exactly the same outlook/casing with the 1.2" screen and exact ipod packaging.

Perhaps you could get them off some reliable retail stores for genuine stuff.

As the saying goes, if the price is too good to be true, it usually isin't true.

If you look at the ad, this player is not being sold as a genuine Apple iPod. It's the same i-Platinum (full metal) as sold by UXCELL, designed to look just like an iPod except in name (fooled you though, didn't it?!). If it had the name, then it would be counterfeit. As it stands, the seller is suspect in my eyes, because under two accounts, they are asking buyers to give them positive feedback (reputation building) before receiving any product. I bid on one of their players and have yet to see someone who actually received any product. See my full report in this forum in the thread "Is this a bad seller or not? You decide!"... if you dare read it all....

Hey!

I'm a newbie. I fell for temptation and bought a 1GB player from him the 9th of January. Obviously it is too early to have received anything. And I am very aware it might be a scam. But I will let you know if I receive anything.

He sent me an e-mail on the 11th of January:

Please confirm receive of it and let me know if you did not get it within 20 days time. A feedback to my Ebay account is appreciated and will do the same in return. Please do not hesistate to contact me for any problem first.

Thanks for your purchase

Actually, that comment was directed at lattesurf, not you, who seemed to think the player in question was being sold as a genuine iPod. As to whether or not its worth getting that item, I'd say not. I'm basing that on the fact that I purchased a similar item from the same seller (under a different name) a while back, and I've yet to pay for it, because I've yet to find a single person who received a player from them. And I have emailed some of FATBOY5434's buyers and all have left "advanced feedback" on request of the seller, as was done under the seller's other account, "TAMAINC". The low price is very inviting but that may be the lure....

I'm glad that you understood the great risk involved before you bought your player (as opposed to the usual "after" that most people go through). Particularly the risk that Paypal will leave you hung out to dry if you file a claim of not receiving the unit, since their $25 processing fee is more than the basic cost of the player (assuming you bought it at 24.99us). Let us know whether you received a player from FATBOY5434 and how it is if you have. I'm pretty damn sure this seller sold under other names and reopened new accounts, most likely to hide bad feedback records. It might be surprising if they weren't scammers, because they're even undercutting uxcell on the very same iplatinums.

michiganjfrog , um, i did not mistake the ad as a genuine iPod, maybe you have misread my post.

Re: 2GB 2nd Generation Metal Pod MP3 MP4?

I just bought one of those 2nd generation metal MP4 players from UXCell. It's pretty much just like the 1st generation, but with a nicer metal case and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack instead of a 2.5mm jack, which is also better. I would recommend the 2nd gen player over the 1st.

Sorry if I did, I had read "the player listed is not a genuine apple ipod.... it looks to be just another nano-clone", assuming (not that you thought it was) but that meant you thought it might have been presented as a genuine apple ipod.

jsevinsk: I also just bought the same player from UXCELL. Havent received it yet, but after dealing with my Nano clone, I am now officially staying away from players with a 2.5mm jack!

Re: 2GB 2nd Generation Metal Pod MP3 MP4?

Oh, a couple more things. The 1st gen players have the headphone jack on the side, which makes it difficult to fit them into an iPod Nano case. The 2nd gen players have the headphone jack on the bottom, which makes it easy. Also, the 2nd gen players have the more-common mini-USB jack, but the 1st gen players have the not-so-common extra-small mini-USB jack. (I don't know their official names.)

fatboy5354 appears to be a scamster. His 2GB priced at 24.99 & 4GB at 34.99 are not possible if he has a genuine product.
Undercutting UXCELL is no problem. UXCELL has fat margins.. a lot of people could undercut them.

Hey,
I don't realy think that $30 for 2gb player is too much. I've got a quotation from china manufacturer with also 2gb and 1,8" player for $32,5 (33,5 for sample) (it's different but nice and new design too). So if he buy a lot from there, he could get good price.
I don't want to say now, that he is not an ebay scammer.
I bought an mp4 2gb player from him, and will let You know if he's realy 2gb or not. Believe me or not but if he is a scammer i will be first person who will give him negative feedback with 'nice' description:) And of course send You some info on phorum what is going on.

Best regards,
Martin

I think HubbleMart's point was that $30 for a 2gb player is too >little<. Or rather, $25 in the case of FATBOY5354. You just mentioned that it costs you $32.50 lowest for wholesale cost in bulk. That's still $7.50 more than what FATBOY5434 is selling the 2nd gen Nano clones at, and he's only charging $5 for shipping worldwide, and that's "Special Expedited Flat Rate". I think it comes with insurance and a member of the Royal Guard, to ensure your package is well protected. The reason I didn't pay for my purchase from Fatboy/Scamboy is because of the old adage "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". Truthfully, I shouldn't have even placed a bid on the damn thing, but victim of my own greed, I "wanted to believe"... Never be too hungry for a deal!

rakashmiri,

I have a 'theory'.

If an eBay seller has a small feedback rating, it tells me that they might be a scammer who got caught out and closed their account and opened up a new one.

If you look at him, here is an eBay seller that only has a 42 rating, but yet has over ONE THOUSAND items listed on eBay!! Hum.... sounds abit fishy if you ask me.

I would think being a new eBay seller, you might want to start off small first but listing over a thousand items just seems quite abit much for a 'new' seller.

Yeah, I mentioned this about Tamainc/Fatboy5434 some time ago in another message. It's not a theory, its a fact! Its common for Chinese sellers of MP4 players (other stuff too) to both open up multiple accounts at the same time, and open up new accounts when their old records are too "dirty". I bid on Tamainc's mp4 when "she" had 0 feedback. Then I noticed this seller had like over 750 items for sale! One of "her" buyers thought the seller was new and "deserved a chance". Ha!

The thing that should give people pause, besides the 750 items, is the ad itself. Someone new to eBay usually doesn't do a slick ad on the first go, like they know how it all works and everything. Tamainc/Fatboy both had 0 feedback not too long ago, and both (same person obviously) "solicited" feedback from buyers who had yet to receive their items. I dont know if thats against eBay rules but it ought to be, because it helps scammers. Anyway, this seller was not new to eBay! Their MO (opening up accounts under different names, selling under US/UK/AU currencies) is 100% slick Hong Kong eBay MP4 seller/scammer MO. (Not to say all HK sellers selling the same items in several currencies are all scammers but...).

DUDE!! that is soooooooooo fake i nearly scammed with one of these products! the image was the same as the mp4's were positioned the same!!!!!!! it mught be real but it not worth risking!!
