Note: Some unscrupulous overseas suppliers openly advertise on the internet, or on their web-sites that they will deliberately either misdescribe items or underdeclare their value in order to evade customs charges that are legally due on importation. You should be aware that although the foreign sender may have completed the customs declaration form on the parcel you are regarded (in law) as the importer of the goods and responsible for the information on the declaration, and any customs charges that may be due. This means that if you purchase goods from these suppliers and the declaration is found to be false or misleading you may be liable to financial penalties or criminal prosecution. Furthermore the goods themselves will be liable to forfeiture. It is in your own interests to ensure Customs declarations are completed properly.

That makes NO sense.... How can you control what the exporter writes on the custom label? Geez I'm glad I don't live in the UK.... (no to mention the additional taxes because it contains a radio costs more than the radio!)

What the statement meant that, although you cannot control what the exporter declared, you are liable by UK customs import laws to report any incorrect declaration made by the exporter, and to pay up any outstanding fees due to the wrong declaration.

Kind of crappy, but who would inform their customs that the parcel they received are unpaid in taxes? LOL..

All well and good, but when a seller like mensan64 is making out that he's in Leighton Buzzard, UK, with British flags all over his images, how are we to guess that the packet arriving some weeks later from Hong Kong contains what you ordered?

Ebay, of course would know that the sellers are providing deliberately misleading information, but, hey, like they're gonna stop it??? However, this could be a legal basis which makes them change their policy. As things stand, anyone in the UK who receives one of these players and doesn't declare it to HM Customs is committing a criminal act.

Hey, I would think that if nothing else, lying about where you are located is against eBay's rules! Damn, I know I've gotten kicked off enough of my own mischief accounts for lying about where I was located once it was found out! As a buyer, I would send a complaint to eBay about the merchandise being shipped from another location than stated in the ad. And complain to them that if they don't change their policies, in the future, I will simply sue them for the reason you stated: I have no desire to pay customs duties and am putting myself at risk for not doing so. I think you'll find eBay is very responsive when it comes to being vulnerable to lawsuits. Also, as pointed out elsewhere, the difference in location could be used as leverage to win a Paypal claim.

...and how would they know if you didnt? Customs officers saying "Hey Nigel? This package appears to contain an item simiilar to the one you opened up last week. Do you recall that one? Nigel:"Yes!" Right then... do you recall the name and address of the recipient? We'll need that to slap him with an infraction of regulation 213.450.113...."
