You might want to read this before you buy the Meizu clone:

http://www.pbase.com/troshik/fake_sa..._compact_flash

As for the Glacier clone.... do a toolhaus.org search, and find people who have bought one and used it for a while, and ask them if they have verified 4GB and how they did it (if not via mp3 utilities, point them toward this site, maybe they'll verify for you). WIthout positive verification of 4GB, you are taking a risk.

_Odyssey 9th Feb 2007 7:54 pm

That seller states "Caution: Please do not format the player; otherwise, you will loss all files that needs for running of the MP4 player."

Thats not true is it.. i formatted my player within an hour of recieving it (genuine 1GB) and works a charm. Formatting doesn't remove any software needed to run... the worst case scenario it will reveal it's true capacity and you end up with fake player with less storage than indicated. And you always do a backup before you format.

looks suspicious to me :-/

p.s. but i'm really cautious and not a big supporter of ebay

Re: Real 4GB or fake

Thanks all for your opinion

And if i know all 4GB MP4 in ebay are fake

It don't have a real 4GB ??

I find other seller who say "Tips:
Don't be fool! Watch out Fake Memory! Most 4GB MP4 Players on ebay are FAKE!How to verify the actual memory size?" and he say "4GB Samsung Flash Memory"

It is real 4GB or fake too

FREE S/H 2.0" I-4GB 4Go MP3 MP4 player POD MOV QQ7-04R

or:

No hacked 4GB MP4 MP3 Player 2.0"LCD USB2.0 FM QQ5-04R

BEcause all seller who sell this model of MP4 say "100% Truer , No Hacked"

lattesurf 10th Feb 2007 5:53 am

totozorz , it is quite impossible to tell if a player is hacked or not. If a seller is out to scam people, he could sell his players as 8GB and put on the ad that is it 100% real 8GB.

Maybe i'm too skeptical, but always be cautious of purchasing electronics (especially such players) if the source is not a trustworthy or unverified seller.

Give ygsm the link I gave you, then say that he claimed same for his Sandisk cards and they turned out to be fake. tinydealdirect is listed on the blacklist here for being a seller of fake players. The third seller you mentioned I dont know about. However, his ad is exactly like ygsm's, so either he stole it from them, or more likely, he's ygsm. In fact, perhaps all 3 (and more) sellers are the same guys, because does anyone else find it unusual that they ALL have the exact same wording "100% TRUER NO HACKED" in their ads? Is it a coincidence that all these dolts dont realize that its an improprer use of the word "TRUER"? And they all chose the same font as well as the same words?

Also, I believe that filling a hacked player up with files is not enough to determine that its hacked. Otherwise, we wouldn't need the hacked player thread describing the lengthy process of using mp3 utils to format the player. At least, you have to PLAY all the files to be sure they work. Ask ygsm if they PLAYED 4GB of files.

Clearly you're taking a risk if you bought from one of them, especially if you didn't contact their clients first to see whether they verified the players, as I suggested. But since it seems you're willing to take that risk, I 'm sure a lot of people would like to know what these Meizu clones are like, and if they are indeed 4GB. Myself included! So thanks for being the mympxplayer.org guinea pig on that...

If you get stiffed, you can always open a dispute with Paypal. I think all 3 of these sellers would want to keep their accounts, cos their major players.

Hotboxx 10th Feb 2007 12:27 pm

Damn, I bought a 1GB glacier from tinydealdirect, I hope it is not hacked. I think he can not do much harm, as far I know there are no Glaciers smaller than 1 GB.

Re: Real 4GB or fake

Hotboxx and michiganjfrog - I don't know why tinydealdirect's even on the blacklist. I've bought 3 1gb mp4 players from them, and they've all arrived within a week and a half - unhacked. As a matter of fact, I received one of them just this past thursday, tested it for the hack, and found none. I think the person who posted them on the blacklist should check their player again to make sure it was hacked. In all tinydealdirect's negative feedback, I've found nothing complaining about hacking.

And about the meizu clone, I myself have one on order from them, with notices plastered all over the picture saying "no hacked." I'll see for myself when the player comes, because otherwise it would be pretty stupid to lie that blatantly. Here's the one I ordered:

Would be a steal if it's a real 4 gig for $70 shipped. Too bad it only plays amv, action chip??

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I seem to recall someone here saying they received a Glacier from UXCell that was less than the expected 1GB. Bought with UXCell, you at least have a recourse. Tinydealdirect? Doubt they'd offer much if you complained about it.

I dont know just why they are on the blacklist, but you can always do a search here to find out. Perhaps one way to look at that is to take uxcell as example, again. We know they are legit sellers but a couple of people it seems have received hacked players from them. We also know if you buy a hacked player off eBay, you're pretty much at the mercy of Paypal/eBay's protection policies. And for the most part, they do NOT favor the buyer.

Those players with the memory problem actually had the memory chips in them according to the advertised size. Maybe it was a production failure of the memory chips, don't think uxcell will share the info on that.

lattesurf 15th Apr 2007 2:13 am

Kimster , it is not possible to tell if a player has been hacked or not by the pictures. You'll need to format the player or open the player to verify the actual memory capacity. But at $4.25 with free postage and 8hours to go, i'll say it's most probably hacked.

lite 15th Apr 2007 5:58 am
