Thanks, NOLA MPx Fan. They sound like pretty honest people. Guess I'll buy 1 for me and 1 for the wife.

Well they gave me an tracking,i did not choose ems i choosed also airmail. But still cant track becuze in the chinesse post site u cant track from china to sweden some weird problem they siad

NOLA MPx Fan 10th Jul 2007 4:20 am

You should be able to track it at EMS through Chinese customs, then. at least here, the same number worked on the US Postal Service website. So maybe try entering the number directly into the carrier it will be using in Sweden? Once it enters Swedish Customs, that number should show up on their site, I'd think.

kevx: sure, no problem.

I've just concluded an autopsy and wanted to let folks what kind of memory I found:

There are, indeed, two chips. First is a 2GB Samsung chip. The other is a Hynix chip, and seems to be a 64Mb (yes, megabit) chip.

So instead of four gigabytes divided among two chips, I got one 2GB chip and a 4 megabyte one.

So unless that Hynix chip is doing something else, this player does have room for 4GB and I just got a bad one.

robjones 12th Jul 2007 1:30 pm

Hey, come on guys and gals, this is listed as a 4gb player. It is a 2gb player. Whether it has a card slot or not has nothing to do with it. The price for a 2GB card (TF?) is another $20. This is also a very experienced seller and I find it hard to believe they were scammed. Even if they were scammed, it doesn`t give them the right to pass the scam on to Ebayers who are parting with their hard earned cash, they should take it up with the supplier.
Dont want to offend anyone here, just my opinion.

NOLA MPx Fan 12th Jul 2007 2:06 pm

Actually, they are.

At least that's what their communications with me after they offered to pay to have it shipped back to China indicated.

Yes, they offered to pay for the return. Up front. Along with the refund.

They also pulled all the listings for that model after I contacted them. They are back now. As noted, my box was marked 4GB, but the player inside the sealed original box was marked 2GB. I guess they could open every one, but that seems like it would generate more issues than it solves.

And, yes, dealers are charging that much for the miniXD option. Here's a model that is identical to the one in question with exactly that markup:

So yes, I took that as somewhat of a common charge. Going from 2 to 4 GB on a site like UXcell costs 15-18 dollars a pop. And that's for a chip on the board. Not a removable card.

My opinion, of course. ;-)

robjones 12th Jul 2007 2:22 pm

I certainly dont want to offend anyone here, I was just urging caution as it sounded like the scam where players were being sold with two memory chips, one of which was not what it was meant to be. Maybe it would be possible to identify the Hynix chip.

NOLA MPx Fan 12th Jul 2007 4:59 pm

Well, whatdayaknow!

I have yet to get all the tiny bits back where they belong, so teh player is open and right in front of me.

That's the number on the Hynix chip.

It does strike me as a bit odd to use two makes, especially as they have different form factors. The 2GB Samsung has the leads coming off the short ends, while the Hynix has them along the long edges. I just can't see that as a good engineering position, but I'm looking at it right now!
