The hacked mp4 players are out in the market, in New York
Unfortunately the problem of hacked mp4 players is not only at ebay. I just got back from holidays in New York where i bought an imitation of Ipod Nano Video mp4 player 1gb from a shop in at 5th ave. http://i3.iofferphoto.com/img/item/368/143/01/red.jpg I had the problem with the format error when i was trying to play AMV files that i converted. In the beginning i thought i was doing something wrong with the conversion. Finally i followed the instructions that i found in this forum for partitioning and formating and then i realised that the actual size is 512MB. After the format and partitioning all the AMV files are playing just fine, but I have half the memory size that i paid. This MP4 nano like player is been sold at many shops of Manhattan especially 5th avenue!!!! Unfortunately since i left USA to come back to my country I cannot do anything. The only thing that comforts me is that I didnt buy any model with bigger memory and more money  Is there any program or process that i can find that will hack it again to 1gb? at least to have bigger space for my mp3 and not play any mp4 |
well, you got really stuffed there
unfortunately if its 512mb then that is the physical size of the memory, it cant be hacked back have you contacted the store or even informed the local police via telephone, sounds extreme but tell the store if they do nt do anything that you will contact the authorities how much did you pay for this little thing |
I paid 43$. I don't know to tell you the truth if they know also whats happening. Their provider might be a scum and sold them these hacked mp4 players. I will try to contact them, because now Im in Greece but you know all this process of calling them and maybe sending back the mp4 to get a new one costs more than the price of the mp4.
Anyways the place is at 345 fifth Avenue NY (Opposite Empire State Bldg.) and it's called J.S. Sutton & Son. |
i am surprised they are allowed to sell such a clone in the open high street, on the web yes, but usually when a country with stricter laws buys in these players they usually change the wheel to a cross, or something like that, you know, to make it lok different than an ipod
and yes, you are right, trying to get something out of this may be more hassle and money than its worth, its just that good ole feeling of justice that would be nice |

A computer shop here in Winnipeg has the imitation Ipod shuffles for sale, even in their flyers. I guess if it doesnt actually say something about apple on it, its cool?

In Chinatown in New York City you can buy fake Rolex watches and fake designer handbags (Prada, etc...) Some small "mom and pop" stores will sell it to you but I have also seen this one place where everyone is selling out on the streets. They have one person whom carries a fake Rolex watch and shows it to you. If you like it, they take you to another area and another person sells it to you. they also have people "looking out" for police officers. If a police officer is spotted or suspected, then the entire operation shuts down for a half hour or so.
There are also people there selling bootleg DVDs - I saw a DVD for a movie for sale for a move that was just released and was only in the theaters for two days so I bought it just to see the quality (it was only $5.00). It even had a very pro looking DVD cover artwork. So I took it home and played it. It was recorded with a camcorder in a movie theater. I don't feel so bad about my purchase. My friends got a good laugh about it The last time I was in Manhattan (spring of 2006) there were no iPOD clones for sale in these stores (or from street gangs) but things can change real fast I guess... |
