Hacked player from eBay waiching168, lots.music, touch.sound

Hello

I think I have bought a hacked 16Gb Mp3/Mp4 player from ebay.
After I formatted with "MP3 player Disc Tool" it only shows 2Gb memory capacity.

I have also opened the player and read the numbers of the memory chip.
It says: "HY27UU08AG5A"

Someone who knows what those numbers stand for ?

08 = x8
AG = 16G looks like a 16Gig chip to me, you can check with this:-

I have a Hynix memory.

Is this a 16Gb or a 2Gb memory ?

Effectively, you've been scammed :?... see what this link here says: Fake 8GB Slim Mp3 Mp4 Fm Video Media Music Players.

Quote:

It contains a single HY27UU08AG5A flash chip. The manufacturer part number decoder for the HY chip can be found at http://www.hynix.com/inc/pdfDownload...ND%20Flash.pdf. HY27UU08AG5A is a 16Gbit chip i.e. 2GByte. There is no magic to build a 8GB player from a 2GB chip. It is just cheating.

Hi mac_gyver,

Sorry to hear about that.

Can you post information on WHO you bought it from so we can list them as a bad seller?

Our pages get indexed by Google, so hopefully when someone searches for that seller, they might find this page and hopefully won't fall into the same trap.

What you can do is ask for a partial REFUND. If you've paid by PayPal, you can put through a dispute and hopefully get the partial refund. It's probably the better solution than trying to send it back for a full refund as you may not get that or the player!

Re: I think I have bought a hacked player...

Ok, the ebay sellers that sold me hacked players are:

waiching168
lots.music
touch.sound

The last two sellers seems to be the same, because they both had the same "sender" address on the envelopes.

By the way, is there any real 16Gb Nano "clones" out there ?
Or are all just hacked ?

I have done a little research, it seems that there is no 16Gb nano "clones" with real memory capacity, the maximum I have found that is confirmed is 8Gb. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it would be 'safer' to not touch the 16GB players at the moment. 8GB players are not all confirmed to be 'legit' as well.

It's really hard to safe guard you from a hacked player. There are posts of people who bought 1GB players, only to find they have 512MB or only 128MB!

Best to check the seller's feedback and search anything about them on the internet in case someone has posted them as a bad seller.

If you pay by PayPal, you can file a dispute if the player has been hacked. You can see a lot of members have done this in the past and got a partial refund which is better than sending the player back for a full refund.

Hope that's of some help.
