Dead 1.5" MP4 Player.

Hi,
I have this type of 1.5" mp4 player (s1 mp3):
http://www.mtwo.com.tw/images/product/MP-775.JPG
http://211.78.161.57/gdpic/82469_100.JPG
http://www.mp3players.co.uk/site/ima...fa_srm800f.jpg

http://cgi.ebay.com/512MB-MP3-MP4-1-5LCD-2...1QQcmdZViewItem

I guess I upgraded it with the wrong player and all I get is a dead blue screen.

I cannot recover the old firmware either using the upgrade tool in mp3 utilities.

My original version was 3.2.16 Wilson Co Ltd. and I was only upgrading with another 3.2.16 version. :?:

Any idea what went wrong?

I also tried a bunch of other firmwares...version
3.2.13, and other 3.2.16 versions but none work :!:

I also tried dump.bin from this site but there seems to be something wrong with it. It is supposed to be something like 10 megabytes but when
I download the bin file, it says the size is only like 6kb!

Anyone know what type my player is? Type A?B?C?

Where can I find I firmware that will work or how do I recover my old one?

Thanx

haseebanjum 5th Apr 2006 9:48 pm

Haseeb

haseebanjum 5th Apr 2006 9:51 pm

btw, can i ask, how much did u buy it for?

admin 6th Apr 2006 1:04 am

Hi Arishneel,

I have a player which looks the same as your player. However using the s1fwx, it doesn't pick up the player, so it looks like th one I have is using a different solution which the s1fwx can't detect.

If anyone can upload a firmware for this player and help Arishneel, that would be great.

haseebanjum 6th Apr 2006 4:27 am

I was trying to upload it but cant seem to.
try this link. it is the same player but 1GB

http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...ile&file_id=46

arish_06 6th Apr 2006 9:21 am

Thanks for the link haseebanjum but that's the dump.bin I was talking about earlier. It doesn't seem to work with my player.

By the way, I got it for $95 US on ebay and the seller unregistered from ebay (took off) so i can't get help from him.

If only I had backed up my original firmware....

HereVip 6th Apr 2006 3:05 pm

the player dosn't work

i have the same problem but the windows don't recognize the player ! what can i do?

admin 7th Apr 2006 12:45 am

HI arish_06,

I tested the firmware from: http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...ile&file_id=46 and I can download the full 5.41MB fine.

Can you try download it again and see what happens?

haseebanjum 7th Apr 2006 2:32 am

yes, i downloaded the firmware too from the link. it should be 5.41 mb. (try downloaded using getright if there's a problem). If it still doesnt work, i'll upload my firmware (which is 1.something MB zipped). try downloading again now and tell me if it works.

HereVip 7th Apr 2006 5:11 am

i try to reset the memory like in this sits
"http://s1mp3.secret.com.br/en/docs_deadrec.php"
and after that i try to update the old FW from the disk that i got with the player and only the screen turn on in "whating mode" but the windows still don't recognize the MP4
what can i do ???
if i don't wrong i need 3.5.2 version of the FW somting in 3.5...

help meeeeeeeeeee

arish_06 7th Apr 2006 12:07 pm

I downloaded it again and know it does say 5.41MB. But I got another problem.

When I try to upgrade using the dump.bin, an error occurs halfway through saying something like:

"An error has occured in ....rdiskupdate.exe.
Program will now close"

I guess the dump.bin is a recovery file so when I try to use it as an upgrade, it causes an error.

arish_06 7th Apr 2006 12:23 pm

HereVip, what operating system do u have? If u have windows, try going to the "control panel" and click on "Add Hardware."

Plug ur player in the usb port. The "add hardware" wizard will search for any new hardware and guide you through installation.

If u have a dead mp4 player, then the above may not work. If so, try reseting the player with the "ON/OFF" button on the side. Then hold the play button for about 5 seconds.

Now try connecting to the usb port. If the computer still doesn't recognize it, unplug the cable from the player and plug it again. Keep doing this about 3 to 4 times until u can see the flask disk driver icon in "My Computer." (If u previously had the mp4 installed on your computer)

Hope this helps....

arish_06 7th Apr 2006 12:54 pm

haseebanjum....if u have trouble uploading the firmware, can u email it to me at: arishneel05@cs.com

I can't seem to get the dump.bin to work. It'll be much better if I just get urs since u said it's the same player.

Thanks

Re: Dead 1.5" MP4 Player.

Hi arish_06,

I suspect the .bin firmware file hasn't been "repaired" using the s1fwx utility.

Try this:

1. Copy the .bin file into the same folder as the s1fwx program.

2. Run the repair.bat from the s1fwx folder.

3. This should now repair the .bin file and create a new file: dump.bi$. DON'T use the dump.bi$ file as that's the unrepaired file, use the dump.bin instead.

4. Upgrade your player using the dump.bin file and it should work now.

Let me know that works or not. If it does, I will repair it and reupload it.

arish_06 7th Apr 2006 2:10 pm

I tried the repair.bat but it says repair failed:

s1fwx v2.6 - copyright (c) 2005 wiRe (http://www.s1mp3.de/)
repair dumped firmware file...
backup file to 'dump.bi$'...
try to repair firmware...
error: repairing file failed
Press any key to continue . . .

In this website, it says that the dump.bin has games on it but originally, my player didn't have any games. Can this be the cause of the problem?
......

HereVip 7th Apr 2006 4:30 pm

i need FirmWare for this player in varsion 3.5 in .Fw file
can some body please help me and send me this file vip.is.here@gmail.com

admin 7th Apr 2006 4:44 pm

Hi HereVip,

The .bin files CAN be used to update the firmware of your player using the MP3 Player Upgrade Tool.

What you may have to do is use the s1fwx tool to REPAIR the firmware firstly before using it to update your player. Do you know how to use the s1fwx tool? If not, instructions are in the "Knowledge Base" section on the left hand side navigational bar.

Try running the 'repair.bat' on the firmware (make sure you copy the .bin file into the same folder you have the s1fwx in.

Let me know if that works.

haseebanjum 7th Apr 2006 8:28 pm

Ok. I have uploaded the firmware for 1.5 inch mp4 player, the one with 2 speakers on the side (model: F11-01GD or EV-900). It is version 3.5+.
Hope it sorts out ur problems

HereVip 8th Apr 2006 2:33 am

ok thank's for the fw 3.5.35 thats what i need but it steel not work...
what the steps that i make...
the mp4 completly formated and windows can't recognize the mp4 like new drive becouse he's don't have fw on it.
then i update fw from the disk that i got from the saler but unfortunately the version in the disk is 512mb, and when i update the fw in to the mp4
windows recognize the "I" disk like removeble disk.
after that i try update the new version 3.5.35 in to the mp4 but it's show the error that "rapairing file failed" and in the "MP3 Player Update Tool"
that's open finally the .bin file like a fw after, becouse the mp4 already have FW on it (512mb)
and in the middle of the update it crush and say's the FW is invalid.

what can i do?

i using in s1fwx_v30 for repair the update and that's steel not work
becouse of that i say i need the FW like afirst file that i update in the player, becouse the bin file in the first time i can't update and without the fw s1fwx can't recognize the "removible disk"

HereVip 8th Apr 2006 4:06 am

another problem when i try to write another fm that need to bee fit for the player, i find it on the disk and this for 1gb player. the "MP3 Player Update Tool" recognize that file like firmware and writing to the player but the firmware don't save on the player. and afther update the player don't work like before the update

arish_06 8th Apr 2006 7:24 pm

Hey haseebanjum, thanks for uploading ur firmware. However, i am sorry to tell u that it didn't work.
When I try to upgrade using the upgrade tool, it gets half way through and says something like "Not a valid firmware file."

I tried using the s1wx software to repair it but the upgrade tool still does the same thing.

Maybe because ur firmware is 3.5.... and mine is 3.2.....

admin 9th Apr 2006 1:11 am

Hi arish_06,

I've seen a few times where it would error out with a "not a valid firmware file" message half way through. That was because I made changes to my firmware but forgot to 'repair' it using the s1fwx. So, it seems strange yours won't upgrade even after you've repaired it too.

I'm thinking maybe the firmware is not right for your player?

If I had the firmware for your player, i would upload it, but I don't. :(

HereVip 9th Apr 2006 10:49 am

have the same problem

haseebanjum 13th Apr 2006 8:55 pm

arish_06 and HereVip, what is the size of ur flash disk. mine is 1 GB. maybe yours is different, thats why the problem!

arish_06 14th Apr 2006 12:02 pm

Yeah...mine is 512MB, maybe that's the problem.

But at least it shouldn't say invalid firmware type when upgrading.....

Maybe it's because your version is 3.5.something and mine is 3.2.16

arish_06 15th Apr 2006 3:36 pm

Any firmware (3.2.16) I upgrade my player to,
it keeps giving me a blank blue screen. Shouldn't it atleast work somewhat with version 3.2.16?

Does this mean something went wrong inside of the player that it can't operate with any firmware.

I also got firmwares from players that looked exacxtly the same...then what is the problem?

Can you try doing a "low format" using the MP3 Player Disk Tool from the MP3 Player Utilities 3.68 install? Try formatting your playing using the "low" option, then try updating your player with the firmware file and see if that works.

Let me know.

arish_06 18th Apr 2006 9:07 am

....wish I could try that but now I think my player's completely dead.

Windows doesn't recognize it at all.
When I turn it on, it just makes a buzzing noise and does nothing else.

I'll try to follow the recovery guide from
http://s1mp3.org

and see if I can recover it.

arish_06 24th Apr 2006 6:45 pm

...still no luck. Can anybody help me short-circuit my player for recovery mode. The recovery guide form s1mp3.org says remove batteries and touch pins with screwdriver. But my player has a built-in battery that cannot be removed without cutting the wire.

I haven't tried touching the pins on the board because I don't want to screw things further...

Any links to recovery guides for similar mp4 players?

http://www.southern.com/southern/ban...neric_logo.gif....

arish_06 24th Apr 2006 7:32 pm

Never mind....I got windows to recognize it. I opened it and cross-touched some pins here and there and next thing I now, window does recognize and and brings up the recovery tool.
so now I am back to my previous quest...looking for a compatible firmware.

By the way, I tried the "low format" but it didn't make any difference...still none of the firmwares I tried work!

So now what?

admin 24th Apr 2006 7:43 pm

Re: Dead 1.5" MP4 Player.

arish_06,

Glad you got Windows to recognise your player. When you say "cross-touched some pins here and there", can you explain that in more detail? Maybe I can add it to the knowledge base so others will know what to do.......

arish_06 25th Apr 2006 12:17 am

...Yeah, sure. First of all, I disassembled the player and located the chip on the back side under the battery that looked similar to the picture from the recovery guide:

http://s1mp3.org/en/docs_deadrec.php...cbc80722#short

Then I connected my player to the USB port (without assembling it back). Using a thin screwdriver, I touched several pins with the tip of the screwdriver on the upper right side of the chip similarly as indicated by the upper red arrow on the recovery guide (the pins are very small so it is difficult to touch just one pin). Using another thin screwdriver, I touched several lower right pins on the chip (again as indicated by the lower right arrow on the recovery guide).

Then I cross touched the two screw drivers diagonally with the tips of the screw drivers still touching the pins.

http://uploadpictures.info/thefiles/24304081.jpg
(ignore all the text in this image)

As soon as I touched the screw drivers, my computer displayed, "New Hardware Found." :D

http://uploadpictures.info/thefiles/92397955.jpg

After installing the player, I went to the mp3 utililties upgrade tool and the recovery tool opened.

Then I just used a random 3.2.16 firmware version to get it out of the recover state...so all I need now is the proper firmware to get it going again.

At least now I can store files in it...which means it isn't completely dead.

Here's how to disassemble the player:
http://uploadpictures.info/thefiles/66960937.jpg

arish_06 25th Apr 2006 1:44 pm

And also, on the chip board, I found some writing that I think was my board id. But I couldn't read it properly because the manufacturer put glue on top of the writing and pasted the battery....when I try to wipe off the glue, the writing gets lighter and lighter so I just left it like that...
I only know that the Id starts with K....

Ashwin 27th Apr 2006 11:59 am

hey arish_06,

i have the same model as you do...i just wanted to add that the chip is located right underneath the screen...

by the way...thanx man you were a big help man...thanx a lot...seriously

arish_06 28th Apr 2006 2:13 pm

Hey Ashwin, I just wanted to know if you were having the same problem as me...was your player also dead. Were u able to recover it?

If you find a compatible firmware, can you also send it to me or give me the link or something.

But I think you have a different board than mine...because you said your chip was located under the screen, whereas mine was under the battery...or did you mean it was pasted on the back of the screen?

If our boards are different, then we might also need different firmwares.

But let me know if you have any 3.2.16 firmwares...I'll give it a shot and see if it works with mine.

Ashwin 28th Apr 2006 9:12 pm

first of all, yeah my player was dead (the screen was black and my computer didn't recognize it even as a flash drive). yeah it was stuck with glue at the back of the screen, i read ur instructions and managed to bring it back to life. I didnt use 3.2.16 though, i got only 3.5.35.

What i actually did was. I download 3.5.35 merged (dont know what 'merged' actually means). I followed your instruction until the part where my computer displayed 'New Hardware Found'. Then i first installed the merged 3.5.35, but nothing happened there was just a light on the screen. SO then i installed the backup (dump.bin) which i had taken earlier and the player turned on.

Before all this i tried installing my backup first but didnt work.

It took me 5 hours to do the whole thing...

ps. i got the merged 3.5.35 version from www.s1mp3.org i'll try to find the link and post it soon

Ashwin 28th Apr 2006 9:18 pm

This is the link to download the merged 3.5.35 firmware ---> http://www.s1mp3.org/files/firmware/fw_from_flash/MP-693C-S_(v3.5.35_merged_-_FULL).7z

Thanks Ashwin,

Is the 3.5.35 merged firmware you mentioned above, the same as the one you uploaded to our site here - http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...le&file_id=113?

Ashwin 28th Apr 2006 11:43 pm

yes binh it is the same file. Sorry for the extra links...

i wasn't able to find the files i uploaded onto the site before. I thought it would be in the 'uploads my members' section. I got it now.

arish_06 28th Apr 2006 11:44 pm

Thanx for the link Ashwin but sorry to say that it didn't work with my player.
If I try anything other than firmware 3.2..., my player gets killed again. So the 3.5.35 firmware doesn't work...

Maybe I should replace my entire board or something because I don't think there's any compatible firmware out there for my current board...I'd say I've tried more than 50 different firmwares by now but none of them work.

...and my seller  ...he sold the player to me on ebay and took off (unregistered). ....so can't contact him for firmware :(

Since my player had a Wilson firmware originally, I think Wilson Ltd. must have a copy of the firmware. Anyone have contact information for Wilson Co. Ltd?...or any other manufacturers?

...or anyone know if there's a place to purchase a new board?
