My half dead player

Well I just got my MP4 player, the one that looks like the iPod nano with the Sony name on it. And here's what happened.

I formatted it wrongly in Windows, instead of FAT I formatted it FAT32, not once, but twice as I didn't read the manual and there was problems in transferring files to the player. And now here's what happens when I turn the player on.

The screen just shows the hourglass sign and nothing happens. It stays like that forever. I've left it on for 5hrs and it still stays there. When I plug it in the computer it detects the hardware, but it can't be installed, so the device won't show up on My Computer. I've tried the driver CD provided but that didn't work either. I'm on WinXP btw. I've also tried it on my other computer and the same thing happens. So I've done all I can to solve the problem but looks like I just don't know enough about this thing.

Thanks in advance.

^^,

Have a look at this post here: http://www.mympxplayer.com/viewtopic...=asc&&start=30

It will step you through the steps on how to recover your player from it's 'dead' state.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work, I've tried cross-touching it but nothing happens. My computer detects a device when the player is plugged in but it just prompts to install the device, which I can't now. The screen remains on the hourglass sign.

what happens if u try 2 upload a new firmware while it shows this screen?
does it work?

for me it immediately went into recovery mode and i just had to install a (FULL?!?) firmware and it worked again

Well the problem is I can't find the device in windows, how can I even upload a new firmware into it...? I can get it connected but it just prompts me to install the device. I've tried using the driver disk but that doesn't work either.

To be honest I haven't even started using the player and it's given up on me, how frustrating.

Re: My half dead player

connect ur player to the pc.
then start the firmware upgrade tool,
what does it say?

The problem is when I connect my player to my PC Windows prompts me to install the driver. And I can't fix that. So the player doesn't show up in My Computer.

And which firmware upgrade tool should I use?

SS_Scl, if you're using xp it shouldn't require driver intallation...so something went wrong during the short-circuit or the short-circuit didn't work.

Try short circuiting again UNTIL it shows up as "ADFU server device" in your computer. You shouldn't see the loading hourglass after the short circuit btw.

Once you get it to come up as ADFU, then all you need is a full firmware to recover your player. From the looks of your pictures that you posted, seems like you're gonna need 3.5.35. There's a few of this version on this site.

But first get it come to come up as ADFU and report back.
