Default MP4 Player shows as 'USB DEVICE' not 'ADFU SERVER DEVICE'

Hello everyone,

I recently bought the Ipod Nano-Clone 4GB MP4 Player and decided to update the firmware as for some reason I was able to store 3000+ songs but it would only show as having 99 songs stored. I've obviously installed the wrong firmware and now cant get the player to switch on. I did a little trick I picked up (thanks to this website) that meant shorting a chip to get Windows to recognaise the player as a ADFU Server Device.

Now heres the problem...

Windows recognaises the player but as a USB Device that is not installed correctly and when I run the hardware wizard Windows cannot find any recommended drivers. The guy I bought the player from is an Ebay Seller and a Driver CD wasnt provided even though he claims that all his products come with one.

Any help given is greatly appreciated.

gregthomas02, Windows tends to remember what devices have been connected to what ports and will continue to install the same driver.Uninstall usb device driver and connect the player to PC on a different usb port.

Are you running XP 64bit as I am not sure of 64bit driver availability.

Hi,
I uninstalled the driver and when I shorted the player it did appear as a new hardware but still as a USB DEVICE.

I am running Windows XP Pro 64 at the moment but I do have access to a 32-bit Windows XP so i'll give that a try and see what the outcome is. You'll probably be hearing from me very soon lol.

Hello all,
Good news. I managed to get Windows to notice it as a ADFU Service Device. This didnt work on my 64 bit XP Pro but worked on my 32 bit version.
The upgrade tool for the mp4 player also provides a win98 driver which also works with XP so I used the driver from there and it installed the needed drivers.
Now all I need is the correct firmware and to figure out why I cant have more than 99 songs.

Thanks for your help!

gregthomas02, I worked out how to manually install the driver it may work on XP 64. i have outlined the process in this post.

Regarding your 99 songs the players have a folder maximum of 99 songs, so break your songs into folders of 99 or less and you should be able to read them all.

Cheers
