kuki, Shorting the chip to reset it should be quite easy, it does not seem to matter what pins are crossed, I have done it on the right side, left side and even from side to side across the chip and all seem to work. If you can not find the right combination of full and dump version firmware then you may not be able to recover your player.

Are you trying to load a full version firmware or a backup dump, because in recovery state your player will only accept a full version firmware.

Are you getting any error messages?

Recover the dead player with Windos 98
 

I followed the guide step by step, but when I tried to instlall the driver inside c:\windows (AdufUpdate.inf) windows kept sayng that there was no information for my hardware in that file, I even tried to find other AdufUpdate.inf in other folders, it kept saying the same thing! :cry: So I used an old computer with Windows 98, and that worked! it automatically recognized the nano clone as an ADFU server! :twisted: So I installed a random complete firware, and the screen turned black, so it wasn't the correct firmware :roll: , but now when I came back to Windows XP, I noticed that it recognized the pod as an ordinary memory stick, that allowed me to format the dead player and clean it :D . Having the dead player formated and recognized by windows (with a bad firmware) all I had to do is flash the firmware I backed up from the same player when I bought it, and that did it!!! So, I recomend that if Windows XP doesn't recognize the player, get an old computer with windows 98, that will do the Trick!!! :lol:

Hi guys.

I've followed the guide to install the ADFU driver and it worked, but I haven't the message that say's the player is in recovery mode.

Then, I unplugged the player, plugged again and got nothing.

So, I shorthed it and I got a computer shut down.

Well, I plugged it on the other USB port and didn't have to short it, the computer shut down immediately.

What did I made wrong?

jonao, If your player is causing your PC to crash unfortunatly it sounds as if the chip may be faulty or damaged and I doubt you will be able to recover your player. If you have access to another PC try connecting your player and see if the problem still occurs as it could also be a motherboard problem.

I also have a question, i have an nano-look player and i wanted to set the ipod theme on it, it didn't went good and then i tried this guide. I'm now out of the recovery mode but now i can't set my own dump.bin on it. would that change if i format it, but i can only format with fat32 in wondows.
