broose, Hard to say but if the full one was working then the problem may be something else. Try shorting the chip across from side to side starting at one end and dragging the tweezers down all pins, I find that more effective most of the time. the other thing that sometimes plays up is the upgrade utility so uninstall it and then install a different version and see how it goes.

What you need to do is follow the Dead Player Guide and look in the section where you need to put the player in "Recovery Mode". By shorting the pins on your player and putting your player in "recovery mode", your computer will then detect your player. Then you should be able to install the drivers and format your player after that.

Dear all,
I bought an Ipod MP4 (8Gb) from China. But after this one died. I have tried recover it following guides in this topic but I cann't finish as well.
My computer can see only 46Mb on the player. And player shows only blue screen. I tried copy some mp3 files to the player and blindly pressed play button and it plays music too.
Please could you help me to repair my player?
Its Chip: ATJ2085W (F5170AB 55U)
Mem: SAMSUNG 534 K9F1208U0B PCB0 (VGG288P1)
I lost the origin firmware of it.
(and I tried almost firmwares downloaded from this site).
Thank you very much!

leanseamap, This is possibly the worst case of a hacked player I have seen. Your 8GB Samsung K9F1208U0B chip is actually 64MB which is why it is only showing 46MB as 18MB is possibly taken up by the firmware.

You still have not found the right firmware for your player which is why the screen is still blue. We only have 100 or so on site but there are 100's of variations so finding the right firmware is usually the hardest part of recovering your player.

mrbeny81, You need to keep shorting the memory chip until the player is recognised as an ADFU Device sometimes you have to do it many times before it is recognised properly. Try connecting your player to a different USB port and the shorting the chip across from side to side .
