Re: DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE

Hello every one .
My 1st post here and I need help
Weeks ago I bought an MP4 from eBay ( look at the picture on the left ) , It suppose to be 4GB , but later I found it is only 1.9 GB .
However a week ago I bought another one ( look at the picture on the right ) , It suppose to be 4GB , but later I found it is only 1.9 GB as well

http://www.chance2save.com/mymp4/1.jpg
They look almost the same but they are not .

I liked the firmware of the new MP4 Player , Hence they look almost the same ( at the beginning I did not notice the differences ) I wanted to update the old device firmware .

However after I did , the old device is just giving me blue screen ( see the pic ) and I don't have a backup of it's original firmware , My Windows XP detect the device as a removable device ..

I tried every firmware in this forum ( full and dump ) but nothing works for me .
I even tried tadad1's "Dead Player Recovery Guide. " but it doesn't work for me ( the windows detect it as usb mass drive 1.9 GB ) I formatted it many times .. but nothing happened , two days now , and I'm still trying :(

http://www.chance2save.com/mymp4/2.jpg

I remember the MP3 update tools showed the version was 3.5.37
and the new one is 3.5.35 ( but I like it ) .
I appreciate if someone has the right firmware or any idea that might help

rfanteno, It is not possible to say what version the firmware is from the image but it is a new one so I would guess 3.5.37 .I would suggest that you PM "mrbAsem" who posted the picture in the gallery and ask if he can email you a copy of his firmware.

rfanteno 3rd Oct 2006 1:46 am

sad to hear that... but tatad1, can you refer me more links of different firmware files?

hi all... my former firmware has features of movie(amv player), fm with recording capability, e-books, voice, recorder, set-up, photo... and looks like this:

hi all

i have my mp4 recovered but the screen is very bright... adjusting the brightness level in the setup menu doesnt work... plz help... what will i do...

regards
renz

tadad1 4th Oct 2006 3:01 am

rfanteno,
This is because the firmware is for a player with a different screen type. Try loading your firmware in to Firmware Modify HERE . It has an adjustment for contrast but normally you can only turn it up it generally only goes down one or two points which is not enough for what you need. I have seen a firmware with the same menu's as you indicated but I am having trouble finding it again. What size is your screen?

tadad1 6th Oct 2006 4:10 am

Re: DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE

devika, I have found it does not really matter where the chip is shorted, I have successfully reset the player on the left side, the right side and even from side to side across the chip. The recommended points to short though are here

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/3551/memchipmj4.gif

If your player is not being recognised as an ADFU device and the upgrade software is not detecting your player then you need to manually install the driver as explained in the red text. If you do not have an ADFU driver in the Windows folder you will find one in C:\Program Files\MP3 Player Utilities 3.57\RDiskUpdate\driver or where you have the MP3 Player Utilities installed.

tadad1 6th Oct 2006 4:19 am

rfanteno, There is no way to edit the firmware if the images are all mirrored.

devika 6th Oct 2006 7:00 am

thank for ur kind replay i do the procedure and install driver now i can programme the pod sucessfully3.5.37v2.1b FM for recovery.fw but it will not power on ....any idea pls

tadad1 6th Oct 2006 7:02 am

rfanteno, This is the firmware I mentioned that had the same menu images as the one you showed. DOWNLOAD

tadad1 6th Oct 2006 7:08 am

devika, When you say it will not power on is it showing in Windows Explorer when you connect to your PC?
If your player is able to load firmware again then you can try some other 3.5.37 from the download section.

now i can programe and conect to pc saw the files but not power on can i try another firmware

tadad1 6th Oct 2006 7:54 am

devika, The 3.5.37v2.1b FM firmware you used is just enough to get your player recognised again, now you should try some other firmware, if your player stops responding again just reset the chip and use the 3.5.37v2.1b FM again.

ok i do it one more 3.5.37v2.1b FM now pod will blink one time now no responce////

tadad1 6th Oct 2006 8:34 pm

devika, Then try a different firmware. You can not expect to load one firmware and have your player fixed. If your player is in recovery mode you will have to flash it twice once with a full firmware and then with a dump. You will find full firmware in the download section. You may have to try different combinations of full and dump as well. This is all layed out in the guide so I suggest you read it fully so you understand.

tadad1 7th Oct 2006 7:41 am

devika, It is not possible to tell you the exact firmware you need as there are 100's of variations now. If your firmware was originally 3.5.37 then you must just keep trying this version firmware until you find one that works with your player there are quite a few in the Download>Firmware section. Worry about your audio problem once you get the player going again.

Re: DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE

Hello all! :)

i want to add an information, its that i've shorted my player chips pins and it came to life, well what i wanna say is that i used to short first the processor chip pins ATJ2085, and it works, as it sure to work with shoting the memory chip pins SAMSUNG or HYNIX!

so you can bring your dead players to life by shorting any chip pins you want or you see that its easyer for you to short, its not important which chip you short!

N.B: i used to short memory and processor chip, thats worked in both, but i didnt short radio chip pins just because i havent one in my player :) ! , so i dont know what will happen if you short your radio chip pins!

Thanx! :)

Re: DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE

Hi,
Im new to this forum.
I have the 4GB MP4 player with samsung chipset.
I followed the instructions to short the pins and was able to update the firmware and I tried a few and still had no luck getting it to work.
Now Ive another problem in that the screen is now permanently on and a blueish colour. When I short the pins it wont detect as a USB device in windows.
Occasionally and very rarely it will beep and display as a USB device but it immediately removes itself so no device is found.
Anyone had similar problems or have ideas?
I have backed up the firmware from a similar player so can upgrade it when I can get the unit to detect again.
Many thanks

tadad1 9th Oct 2006 4:10 am

zacspeed,
Try connecting to a different USB port if possible one you have not used the player on before. Then short the chip across from side to side. It needs to be recognosed as an ADFU device then when you open the Upgrade tool you will get a message that the player is in Recovery Mode and waiting for firmware to be loaded.
If windows can't find the ADFU driver there is a copy in C:\Program Files\MP3 Player Utilities 3.57\RDiskUpdate\driver or where you have the utilities installed.
When it is recovery mode you will need to load a full version firmware, then format the player, then load the dump. There are full version firmware in the download section, it does not have to be the exact one for your player but try and keep to your original firmwares version number eg. 3.5.37.

If changing ports does not help, right click on My Computer select Manage , then device manager, expand the Universal Serial Bus Controller heading and right click on every USB Root Hub and select Uninstall. Disconnect the player and reboot. Windows will re-install the drivers when the PC re-boots. Then try the player reset.

Re: DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE

Hi Tadad,
Thanks for your advice. It helped me get further than I have done before but found it just took me thru an infinite loop. It would recover the firmware but then it wouldnt read the drive and said it wasnt readable and it wouldnt allow me to format it. So i'd start over and repeat the cycle.
So anyway I tried a different firmware, I think it was a version 3.2 something.
It said it was successful and then the screen flashed for a little while, approx 1 second at a time and then went blank. I tried uninstalling all USB devices again and when I short the pins I get no response now.
Any ideas as im at a loss?
