nice info! lot easier to get it to reset with that.

sadly i'm not getting any replies on my emails to uxcell. their webform sends to info@uxcell.com. does exist, no reply tho.

and this is really weird:

http://www.uxcell.com/public/bvzfaq.html

states products@uxcell.com.hk and sales@uxcell.com.hk
products@uxcell.com.hk for questions about products, but that doesnt work!

<products>:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. vpopmail (#5.1.1)

nice huh? especially with "WE TAKE PRIDE IN SERVING YOU!" in their auto-reply emails

it is recognized as usb device? cause then you dont need to get it into adfu mode.
if it isnt, the resetting is a bit tricky, i my case i had to try several times.
the updater software then detects it and says its in recovery mode.

oh and the chipset/memory doesnt say much, according to s1mp3.org. you need the board number to know what device you have. my i-nickel has that number under the LCD (remove front panel and lift the lcd to see it). mine says ZX-763A-SL-V2.

nothing to be found for that board tho

i've gotten several replies from uxcell by the way.
it seems (at least for the i-nickel) there is now 2 firmwares online, where it used to be 1. sadly, neither did the trick for me. they advised me to format as well, but i had already tried that to no avail. it keeps showing me a blueish screen.

Hi

I purchased an 8GB player from Hong Kong (before finding this site and the fact it was on 1gb !!!)

The player would not charge up from the mains or the USB port of the computer. Initially Vista only recognised one drive (7gb plus) but then 'found' another of 250 mb.

Prior to that I had tried to remove the hack but whilst the drive was seen by the computer it would not allow formatting via the MP3 tool programme

It asked me to format the drive - I did - big mistake - I got an error and now the player hangs at the start up with a blue screen and the egg timer.

I have managed to short it and get it recognised as an ADUF drive. However when I want to flash the firmware the MP3 tools software tells me it is waiting for a device to be connected (it already is). I do not get a message telling me that the palyer is in reset mode.

It then stops responding.

Is there something else I should be doing ? or have I reached the end of the road - took me several hours to get this far.

martynh1,

I'd say your problem is due to the fact that you're using Vista. If you can get access to an XP machine, install the MP3 Utilities on that and try again.

Thanks for that - have tried it on 2 XP home machines - and they both freeze whilst trying to install the softeware. On an XP Pro machine it says the ADUF file is wrong - I have followed this thread and done what it says but still will not load the file.

Trying an ME system now. Vista is the only one it will set up on but then will not connect with the device !!!!

All but about to give up now !!

Have installed the MP3 tools on to the ME machine.

Installed the player as an ADFU device but it comes up with an exclamation mark in yellow against it.

When I run the MP3 tools software I get a warning box saying Device Switching Failed Please Reconnect your device ?

Got further after the reply earlier.

Any further assistance would be gratefully received !
