Hy everyone!

Well, my problem is the next: I use XP home edition. I followed the recovery guide I reseted the chip but my computer recognise my mp4 players as a USB device not as an ADFU. I followed the red highlight text but when i want to install the ADFUupdate.inf the windows keep saying : "the specified location does not contain any information about your hardware"
The utility manager does not see the device so I can't upload a new firmware. I tried an other XP, It did not help either. All the time I get this message.
I have read almost the whole forum I have seen similar problem even so no solution. Maybe my mp4 player is one of the really dead mp4 players.
I would be appriciated if i would get any solution.

thnx ZOLI

Hi,

I own a MP4 player called i-Nickel(1GB version) which I bought from www.uxcell.com. To begin with, this player has been problematic from the very first day I received it. At first, my PC did not recognize(Windows Message - 'USB device not recognized'). Then suddenly, M$ Window XP picked it up one day. All functions on the player worked well, mp3, voice, photo, amv player, etc. A few days ago I started getting a 'Disk Error' message from the player anytime I tried to access the internal flash. The radio continued to work fine but I could not access the mp3, video, voice, or photo functions. Further more, the device was again in an unrecognizable state with Windows XP. I followed your 'Dead Player Recovery Guide' and was able to get windows to recognize the mp4 player. I then proceeded to update the firmware with the one recommended for this particular device from uxcell.com(http://www.uxcell.com/public/mp3upda...5_i_nickel.zip)
The firmware upgrade was successful(so says the fw upgrade tool). However I could not access the the drive in Windows Explorer, so I proceeded to low format the drive using the MP3 Player Disk Manager. The formatting process failed at 18%. Since then I have not seen anything on the screen of the palyer. It does not boot. I tried repeating the guide and I am able to get windows to recognize the USB device at times, but the firmware and formatting tool does not recognize the device.

Do you have any suggestion for this problem?

Thank you for your cooperation.

Regards,
Juke

Default NEW Information on Recovering Dead s1mp3 players!

I had been trying for days to recover with what i knew was the right firmware... I finally found out that to recover a dead player it must be in ADFU mode even if it will still let you update the firmware!

so regardless of whether your player shows up in windows or not you still need to open it up and put it in recovery mode!

Hope this helps someone or saves them a few days of worry...

Hello!
