yeah i wasnt able to load the "AdfuUpdate" file or whatever its called but i just clicked on the usb device on installed hardware on that same screen instead of have disk or whatever and then i loaded my old firmware.
So basically i skipped that step.. i had to follow the red directions, but basically i ended up skipping them i think.

On this step.. instead of clicking have disk(since i was unable to load up the AdfuUpdate), which is on the right, i just selected my device in the window and pressed next button or whatever .Just play around with that step til you get it.

Also, in the device manager, i had the wrong thingy selected, so go back there and make sure you have the right thing selected for your player. I have multiple usb devices connected to mine so i had to keep scanning for hardware to see which one updated then i knew which one was the mp3/4 player

i have to do it for my sisters player too.. which is harder.. the player wont come completely apart because the speaker in back is attached to the front via wires. It plays out loud as well as into a headphone jack

I too had the dreaded adfuupdate.inf error- "this file does not contain information about your device/hardware" with Win XP. I haven't seen this fix on this forum and I saw this on the S1mp3.org forum, and it worked for me- I opened up the adfuupdate.inf file in notepad and cut and pasted in these extra strings where KaiT said to put them (his english is a little off but his/her coding ROCKS! I have no idea how he/she figured this out):

Hi,

as i tried to recover my MP4 Player after i flashed a wrong firmware, i can't get hin to be detectet as ADFU Device. Even going through the dead recovery guides.
after trying a hole day i recognized that the Problem isn't that the player is not in ADFU mode. The Problem is that the Player has a other Hardwarename.
So you can edit ADFUUpdate.inf to match your Player.

For mine Player, a ATJ2091N with Board: B828 V6 i had to add 2 lines.
One at the beginning after [Upgrade] i added
%USB\VID_10D6&PID_ff66.DeviceDesc%=MDisk.install,U SB\VID_10D6&PID_ff66

And one at the End of the file, in the [Strings] section:
USB\VID_10D6&PID_ff66.DeviceDesc="USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device"

After that the Player gets recognized when installing the Driver.

well i got as far as getting it to recognizing the player as a usb device and installing the driver but when i try and use one of the firmware's it just hangs on "Downloading the restorable main program" also i used that clone program to make a back up is that what i should use next? to get my player back into working order or do i have to do something else to that.

red_pen , s1clone requires you to have a working player, so that it could dump the firmware from it and flash it into the non-working player.

For a dead player recovery, and you are just trying random firmwares. You'll need MP3 Utilities Upgrade Tool, there are many versions of MP3 Utilities that you can download from the downloads section.

If you encounter hanging when you try to flash in some firmwares, try uninstall the MP3 Utilities, and re-install another version.

Why are clones called MP4 Players, when they don`t play .MP4 at all?
It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.
