hi people. Ive read through about 10 pages but until i get more time for the other 50 i thought ill just ask.

My dead player is stuck on hourglass. It is detected in windows as USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device and WORKING CORRECTLY . Thats as far as i can get. Cant find it in explorer, cant find it in s1fwx scan and cant find it in mp3 upgrade tool/ disk manager.

cant get my fw. I cant even tell what chipset it is it has no brand, i know one day in setting i looked and it had lg firmware and the folder on device was called 1.5.

Ive tried shorting the pins and the lights go off and it reloads but just gets stuck at houglass screen again.

Any know how i can get the firmware programs to actually detect my player?

I never upgraded fw. It just stopped working one day. it is a hacked player from ebay :/ If anyone has some tips i would appreciate it. thanks.

First, retrieve the right firmware because i think hing it again with a firmware is your last option.

If you still have other hopes, dont read the next sentence.

Try to reformat the device (shown on page 1),then use upgrade tool to flash it again with a new firmware.

initiate, thanks for helping.

Problem is i cant extract any firmware because the programs cant detect the device. I hit . to scan for devices and it says nothing found. Nothing pops up in explorer, but the player is listed in device manager as USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device.

So i cant even extract my old firmware let alone flash a new one or format the drive. How to format when its not found in my computer?

Thinking back, i think the reason this has come about is that i formatted it a week or 2 ago in fat32 instead of fat. It worked fine for a while. On the day it died/froze on hourglass, it played fine for about 7 hours at work then it froze on my way home from work whilst playing music, so i dont get it.

Now i know why people are prepared to pay more for a reliable ipod. I used to think it was just for the brand name.

well i think im going to just give up on this. Screw these cheap players. I just purchased a 20gb ipod off ebay for $120 aus, which is reasonable and plenty of space for me as i only use it for music.

As they say, you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Thanks for the help anyways people.

Re: DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE

it's wrond that thing with the tweezers of the nand chip. you may BURN the chip if you short circuit the vcc+ pin with others. you must be careful to short ONLY 4 pins of the chip not random. i have a pic i found on the net i will upload it later. it works for these 4 pins as many times as you wish. also if you get an writing to flash error try to short circuit just for a secont -or- disconnect the li-on from the mp3 player for a while to cause the time function of the chip to reset. i noticed that there is a time function on some chips that prevents you from continuous flashing them. tell me if this works for you too.
