Help Please... Firmware Wrong I Think
Ok... am a new member, Just got my mpx player today may I add its one cool player.. 1 downside is the horrible pics etc... so i tried to update the firmware to a ipod based firmware. Anyways Ive done a back up of my old firmware etc and done it by the book but now my player wont turn on but is reconignzed by my OS (WIN XP) and I can still sync mp3's via windows media player.
Sadly it wont let me update the firmware bk to the orignal using MP3 Player Upgrade Tool it turns round saying the following "Device switching failed, reconnect the device please". Is there any other program that will update the firmware or do I have to take the player apart and reset the chip (feel ok in doing this as long as it fix's the problem) Hope I havent broke it permently like, cant see I have cause it wouldn't reconize it other wise would it ? Any help will be fantasic... Thanxs Daz ~X~ |

When complete try to reload your original firmware backup. If the device is still not being recognised by the upgrade tool you may have to reset the chip. Be aware though that if you reset the chip you will need to load a full version firmware before you can load your backup. In the DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE there is a link to a full firmware that I have used on 2 different players with success. http://www.mympxplayer.com/viewtopic.php?p=3049#3049 |
The mp3/mp4 plyer i have is a 4GB player... is there a firmware for that type of player.. that seems to be the problem even though it has accepted your firmware it has just made the scrren worse it doesnt play now and is just on a ablack screen permantly.

Dazza-E-
have you applied your backup firmware? |
I attempted too and it wouldnt update it for some reason or other... maybe i shud of made a full proper back up using a different tool and not the partial one using s1fwx, do you have any more idea's ? It is gettin detected by the computer again with you firmware just the screen is permenatly black.
Thanxs Daz PS it only seems to accept your firmware still. |
Dazza-E-, Format the player then try your backup.
|
Dazza-E-, Also did you run the repair.bat when you extracted your backup with s1fwx. By the way there are no programs that will back up the entire FW.

Yer I did i followed the actual thing word for word on the website i dunno what the hell is up with this thing. Was meant to be in work today but not at all well. Is my player dead ?

Re: Help Please... Firmware Wrong I Think
When i go to use the disk tool to format the drive I get this message:-
"Not supporting this disk type" and windows will only allow me to format the drive as a FAT32 should I proceed with this format ? Also the player will not work with MP3 Player upgrade tool as I get the message device switching failed, reconnect drive please. Think thats all the infomation I can give for now.. Daz |
Dazza-E-, Yes FAT32 seems to be ok on newer players. Can you access the player through Explorer.
|
Yes I Can, ive got a back up of my original mp3 player firmware but ive just extract the one that is currently on it (using the software before s1fwx) and then repaired that on one of the lines I got the following...
UI30.RES 2.58MB 4DBB56B2 <--- Invalid Check Sum (could this be why your firmware isnt working correctly and is this why I can't flash it with my old firmware ?) |
Ok I just ran error check via windows explorer and that completed without a problem should I try and change the UI30.RES to something else ? and then try and re flash the mpx player with the new firmware ?
|
Dazza-E-, Which one is on it?
|
The firmware which the invalid checksum is the one that is in your actual recovery section thats the one ive flashed my mp3 player with. Am actually sifting through the firmware (the one ive just extracted, one from recovery section using s1res) and ive noticed that from UI30.RES/ICON/pmdlld to UI30.RES/ICON/pmdwait2 there are no images there just black screen or just blue is this correct ?
|
Ok my player is now in recovery state... when i try to put my backed up firmware on i get the following message:-
"Invalid firmware upgrade file" Yet the two files are the same version as your one in the recovery section and also have the same files is there anyway I can edit the UI30.RES or just update that section of the firmware ? |
Dazza-E-, I just loaded the firmware on to my player and then did an extraction and ran repair.bat and get no checksum warnings. But it could be the problem.
Ok just so that I fully understand. You made a backup of your firmware using s1res and ran a repair. You tried to change your theme by uploading a mac themed firmware. Then your player would not turn on but was recognised by Windows. You followed the dead player guide and Windows recognised your player as an ADFU Device. You then loaded 3.5.37v2.1b FM.fw in recovery mode with success . As per guide you turned your player off and on and waited 30 sec. You then tried to reload your backup but got a device not connected error message. You formatted the player and then tried to upload your backup but could not. You can still upload 3.5.37/v2.1b FM.fw but no other firmware. OK this is my understanding of what you have done so far. |
Yes that is all completely correct just trying the final steps again gonna reformat and then try the mp3 tool again. it seems the only way I can get to recover anything though is by using the tweesers and shorting the chip. wont let me do it any other way.
|
did them last steps again and got... device switching failed, please try again.
|
I have this funny feeling its the actually format (FAT32) which is the problem here... ive sorted the bad sector out by re downloading the 3.5.37v2.1b FM.fw. When am connecting the mp3 player into my computer its saying I have two drives a E:/ and a H:/ the H:/ one is the actual mp3 player but whats this E:/ one all about ?
I dont have one connected to my computer should I close this one down and try the tool again. Am at the moment formating the mp3 player to a FAT partition. |
Dazza-E-, can you upload your backup to Rapidshare and leave me a link so I can check it out.
|
Ok great news, I have the player working again... the downside is ive lost 2gb somewhere along the way. The mp3 disk tool locates the i have 3.9GB but wont allow me to format the drive for some reason or other, I get the message :-
"not supporting disk type" I think it was the FAT32 which was the problem... but like i say i have lost 2gb somewhere which is a bit gutting to be honest but at least it works ! |
Dazza-E-, Ok glad to hear your player is running again. There is some debate as to if 4GB chiPod's actually exist. Most have much smaller chips that have been hacked so that they read as 4GB memory chips. Formatting removes the hack and reveals the true size of the chip. FAT32 seems to be part of the hack. The only way to find out your true chip capacity is to note it's brand (Samsung or Hynix etc) and the part number then do a Google with this info you should be able to find specification info.
Here is a post that explains th e situation http://www.mympxplayer.com/viewtopic.php?t=424 You are lucky in one way some 4GB players have ended up being 128 or 256 MB chips. Anyway glad you are up and running. If you want to theme your firmware find a theme you want and load the images using s1res into your own firmware dump.bin Here is a tutorial on how to do it. http://www.mympxplayer.com/viewtopic.php?t=206 |
yer i found a piece of software that fixed the fat32 problem its manfactured by HP but it helped me out by letting me format in fat32. The only problem I have now is that the player is strange in windows media player with the sync, any idea's on fixing that.
|
Dazza-E-,
Sorry i do not use it I just copy and paste. |
Ah well no problem, can always do that ! :).
You've been a superstar m8, cheers for that you got any nice theme's I could use ? That are the same as ipod or like two. Daz |
Dazza-E-,
Haven't done a iPod theme there are a few in the Themes section. |
Hi Dazza-E-
