formating flash memory
 

Need software tool to format my i-pod clone, i tried to format with swisstool and the hp tool, but both gave me a 108Mb memory after format, while according the spe******ts chip number HY27UF081G2M should have 1 Gb, before the format 4Gb was showing but as stated in several posts this does not need to be the actual size of the memory since most of the clones are hacked.
Does anybody has any suggestion?

So to confirm, you've opened your player and that is how you found the chip number HY27UF081G2M?

Other options for formatting is:

* MP3 Player Disk Tool from MP3 Player Utilities 3.68, 4.00 or 3.57 install.

* Formatting through Windows Explorer. Right mouse click on My Computer icon, then choose "Manage". There should be a section called "Disk Management". There you should be able to format your player by choosing the drive letter corresponding to your MPx player.


Try those, if they still give you the same 108MB memory, then there is a high chance that they have even hacked the chip number on that player too! I mean, if you've already tried the HP Tool, Swiss Tool and after trying the MP3 Player Disk Tool and through Windows and you get the SAME 108MB memory, then that tells me there's a high chance the chip number has been put on as a fake.

Unable to format cloned player!
 

Hi, I am trying in vein to format my 4gb ipod nano clone chip no Samsung 619, K9WAG08U1M,
I have tried swissknife which fails to recognise that there is any memory at all on the device and exporer/my computer, which tries to format but then tells me that windows cannot complete formatting. The player isn't dead, I have songs on it but I am trying to sync music which I have downloaded legally from Tesco, when I try to play them, the Mp4 player gives me the dreaded "format error!" message and I am unable to play the tracks, even if I only put one on it! I am able to upload other tracks that I have in media player already, so it obviously hasn't ran out of space

so your player may be hacked to show 4GB and this could be why you are having trouble formatting it. YYou can try the HP format tool here

Others have found it works when having problems.
Try also right clicking on the player in Explorer and in the tools tab do an error check with all options selected then try to reformat.
Let us know how you go.

fritsieh, I have been reading up on the problem and found a post by someone who once worked in the memory chip industry, sorry I can not recall where I read it to give you a link but the gist was that when the chips are manufactured in batches there are always a number chips that are not the best quality. While they do not test every chip they random test a number of chips in each batch to determine the overall quality of the batch and then the batches are graded. The high yield batches that return a consistant number of good quality chips are sold to the highest bidder. The ones at the other end of the scale showing poor testing results well you know where they end up, in the bargin bin and are snapped up by manufacturers of cheap mp3 players and the like. So most of these players have poor quality or faulty chips because it increases the profit line. Most manufacturers will replace the player if it ends up back on their door step but also know that in the end not many are going to find their way home.

Whilst I can not verify the accuracy of this it makes sense to me when you consider the number of posts regarding chips marked a certain size ending up a constant 108MB or 233MB.

Does not help in your case but I thought it interesting to know.

Not sure how to get the tools tab within explorer, I don't get that option when I right click on the drive??? If I reformat I guess I will lose all music?

angelxena, If you right click on your player in Explorer and choose Properties there should be a Tool tab on the Properties window.

Well when I right click it and go into tools and then try to fix errors, nothing happens, surely this is because the disk is reading as been unformatted to the pc, for whatever reason. As I say, it worked fine for a few days and now all this hassle! So should I try the HP format tool? Will this mean that I lose all music on the player already?

angelxena, Formatting it will erase all the music on the player yes. If windows will not format the player then try the HP Format tool.

Started the HP formatting program and I get this message'There is no media in the specified device'
This won't work either??? HELP!!
