Dead well almost dead MP4 Digital Player
Hi SD, Tadad,
I recently purchased a 2GB, black I-Platinium (or so I am told from ebay) Link to device and photo is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1 And stupidly thought I would try and backup the FW, in doing so, the machine went from a nice little set of icons to now a blank, back lit screen. It appears that Windows Xp still reads the drive as an external USB storage, so I attempted to download the FW as per your descriptions and guides.. However after still attempting to install the a number of FW, I am getting a Blank, backlit screen. I recall the Fw being 3.5.37 and even with V2 and what looks liker versions still no lovely colourful icons... PLEASE PLEASE HELP HELP HELP !!! Regards Zest |
Zest, Did this happen backing up your firmware or trying to upgrade it?
Basically you have not found the right firmware for your player. There are so many variations now that finding the right one will just be trial and error. Try contacting the seller and asking him to send you the firmware, and check the mini disc that came with the player occasionally it has a copy but it is rare. As long as it is still being recognised by the upgrade utility you can keep flashing, once it stops you are going to need to open the player and short the memory chip to reset it. The DEADS PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE outlines the procedure. HERE Once it dies it becomes twice as hard because you then need to find a working combination of Full Version firmware and dump firmware to restore your player. Sorry there is no quick fix for this if you have no luck with the firmware on site there are others at www.s1mp3.org. New ones are also uploaded here most days. Good Luck and keep us posted of your progress. |
Re: Dead well almost dead MP4 Digital Player
Hi Tadad,
Thanks for the info, I thought it was during the Backup, now re looking at the utility it was upgrading. What tool do you use to backup the FW? I have sent an email to the Seller, asking for a backup of the FW... Additionally the player seems to be recognised by XP, however I am not ablt to install the ADFU*.inf that came on the disk through the Hardware installation wizard? Additionally, on the CD supplied with the machine is a FWupdate.inf file, however I dont know how to use this, and there doesnt seem to be either a Bin or a FW on the CD that came with the machine, all though there are a series of MSI files. I have attempted a series of FW each time the machine is still being recognised. If anyone has through ebay bought this particular machine maybe they would be kind enough to send me the FW of theirs, please note that this is a 2gb machine... not sure if that matters. Tad, please let me know where I can also get the FW backup tool, mate. Many thanks Zest |
Zest, It is called s1fwx and you can download it HERE and there is a guide to using it HERE . As long as the player is being recognised by the upgrade utility you do not need the adfu driver. If it dies completely and you need to short the memory chip to reset it then it should be recognised as an ADFU Server and windows will then install the driver from a copy in your windows directory, if it can't find it it should let you guide it to the AdfuUpdate.ini
