iPod clone 4GB MP4/AMV/REC/FM lost firmware

Hi

No, I didn´t do backup of my filmware. I´m stupid I know. So I´m in deep trouble now.

The trouble started when I copied via explorer mp3 files to iPod clone. The files was doubled in iPod and I decided to upgrade firmware. Result was bad. I have now blue LCD.

iPod clone 4GB MP4/AMV/REC/FM (there never was radio)

For firmware update I use ”MP3 Player Utilities 4.0” program.

Computer recognize iPod as normal usb memory stick.

LCD is blue all the time..
After firmware update screen flashes.

I couldn´t delete files so I formatted iPod in FAT32.

Board revision as printed on PCB:
MP-693C-SL Main V1.3 2005.12.14

Chips:
ATJ2085W and
Hynix HY27UF081G2M

Filmware that i had:
SC85051C 2006/03/29 ACT_V3.5.35

I have tried several filmware but without any success.

What is ”dump.bin” or ”dump file”? Every time I try to upgrade with these dump files I got this error message ”Invalid upgrade firmware file!”

I found that some firmwares are in .doc formats. WTC?

Prospector, Sorry but i have more bad news for you, the Hynix HY27UF081G2M is only a 1GB chip HERE so that was the start of your problems because the chip was hacked so it appeared as 4GB.

Dump.bin is a firmware backup extracted from another player using s1fwx program. There are 2 reasons why you may be having trouble loading dump files, firstly they may not be repaired in which case you need to make sure they are named dump.bin and put them into the s1fwx folder and run the repair.bat. If you get a failure warning the file has already been repaired. The second reason is that your player needs a Full Version firmware not a dump.

When a dump.bin is extracted from a player not all files are copied some of the files needed for your player to boot and run are not included so if your player is dead a dump.bin will not repair it. You need to use a Full Version firmware which has has the extra 8 files you need, the problem is Full Version firmware are not easy to come by and the chances of you finding the right full version is almost zero.

The good news is you can get around this by installing a Full Version and then overwriting it with a dumped firmware. The difficulty is finding the right combination of full and dump files.

You need to get your player into recovery mode by shorting the memory chip to reset it, the DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE will show you how to do this HERE You will find Full Version and Dumped firmware HERE

Once you load a full firmware you can keep trying dumpfiles as long as your player is recognised by the upgrade utility, once it stops being recognised you need to short the chip again and then start with a full one again.


If your screen is still blue or black with LCD on after loading a firmware then it was not the right one for your player and you need to keep trying.

I am sorry there is no quick fix for your player, the recovery process can be long and frustrating trying to find the right combination of full and dump files.

I´m totally newbie with this stuff so is this the right way.

Computer regognize iPod clone as normal usb memory stick.

1. I use s1fwx programs repair.bat to put dump.bin file to iPod clone.
2. After this I use MP3 Player Utilities 4.0 program to put new firmware
3. Disconnect iPod clone from computer and power off. Power on and hope it works.

And run these steps so many times that I find correct dump and firmware files?

Prospector,

1) Connect your player to your PC.

2) Open MP3 Player Upgrade Tool ( part of MP3 Player Utilities)

3) If the Upgrade Tool detects your player Then you should be able to load a new firmware to your player. When it finishes loading the program will exit and your player will reboot and disappear from Explorer. Wait about 30 seconds. When the player reboots it should show again in Explorer, if the screen of your player is still blue or black then the firmware was not suitable and you need to go back to step 2 and try another one.

If you try a dump.bin file and MP3 Upgrade Tool can not install the dump file it may not have been repaired when it was extracted. You then need to name it dump.bin and put it into the s1fwx folder and run the repair.bat. Once you have run the repair.bat you can try to load it to your player again. You only need to use the repair.bat if you have a problem with the dump file.

If you start the MP3 Player Upgrade Tool and it says "No Device Detected" then you can try to turn the player off at the switch and back on again. If the MP3 Upgrade Tool will still not connect to the player you need to open your player and short the memory chip as explained in the DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE. This will reset the chip and when you run the MP3 Upgrade Tool it will give you a message saying that your player is in RECOVERY MODE and waiting for you to load the firmware. When the player is in Recovery Mode it will not let you load a dump.bin file you must load a Full Version Firmware from HERE
Once you have loaded the full firmware and your player has rebooted and again connects with windows you can try more dump files. If the player stops being detected by the MP3 Upgrade Tool you need to again short the chip and load a full firmware, then try more dumps.

Eventually you will find the right one and your player will reboot and be working again.
