Hi! I got a 4Gigs mp4 reader, nano lookalike.
The problem is that i started playing with the various program on the web
trying to change the horrible interface in it.

Now I got a mp4 reader with a black display, when I plug it in my Pc
it's recognized ad a "usb 2.0 (fs) adfu device" (not a drive).

Fortunately I have the file "dump", but it seems that if it doesn't
recognize a drive it can't flash the device.

Can you explain me what shoud I do now?
I don't want to try by myself to be sure not to damage the reader.

sturedman, When you run the upgrade tool does it recognise your player as an ADFU Device and come up with a message that your player is in recovery mode?
If it does you need to load a full version firmware as the player will not accept a dump.bin whilst in recovery mode. Once you have installed a full version firmware you should be able to the use your dump backup to fully recover your player.

You may need to try a few to find one that is compatible with your backup.

May I damage it more than it is making these tryes?

sturedman, When ever you change firmware there is always the chance that your player may stop being recognised and will no longer upgrade. Your only solution then is to short the memory chip to reset your player which will set it back to an ADFU Device. To give you some idea of what this entails check out the Dead Player Recovery Guide HERE

You should keep to 3.5.37 firmware of the right screen size.

The other problem you may have is that your 4GB player is quite likely a fake and you will find that your capacity has reduced to pehaps 1 or 2GB when you recover.

I made everything esactely as described.

I first got the "It is in recovery state" message, then, when I tryed to upgrade it with the full-firmware file I got this message: "Read or write device information failed! Please exit the program and check if the device is connecting!"

sturedman, Do you get the message with all full firmware you try? Try connecting your player to another USB port preferably one you have not used the player on before. What version of MP3 Player Utilities are you using?

I tryed both types of firmware ("Full3.5.35.bin" and "SPA-609A G2_V1.2.fw") on all usb ports... same message.
The program is the last version, the v4.00.
For some reason I can't write the new firmware on the player.

Should I try with some other "flashing" program?
If so, which one?
There's something we're missing...

If it can be useful I still don't see the u-disk.
I tryed with the s1fwx tool and I got:

sturedman, Have you shorted the chip as in the Dead Player Recovery Guide or is it still in the same state as when you flashed it? You may need to short the chip and do a clean reset.

If you are trying to repair a full version firmware it is not possible and may actually damage it. If you are trying to repair a dump file it is most likely already repaired.

I shorted the chip and I got the "recoivery mode" message, so I suppose I did it right.

sturedman , You could try an earlier version upgrade tool, some people report having more success by using 3.57 and 3.68. You could also try the Product tool HERE

I am not to sure why you are having the device read\write problem.

Thank you so much for helping, I dunno how I resolved the problem. Now, with which program can I make a FULL backup, and not the dumb.bin I made before?

It is not possible to make a full version of your firmware only a dump. But you can recover your player in 2 stages first by using a full version firmware from the download section then by using your dump. The full version may not recover your player fully but it will allow you then to use your dump.
