Default Thinking of calling it quits!

I'll make this as detailed as possible because i'm going to give it 2 more days, if I can't fix the player in that time, I'll be destroying it with a hammer, and let me tell you, after spending over 8 hours with it and having no success, i'll be taking great pleasure in doing so!

Picture of the player: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=130022163401

Board ID: MP752C v1.1 knife

Screen size 1.8 inch (TFT)

Chipset : Samsung

Menus: (From what I remember seeing as I only had the player for 1 day before stupidly trying to upgrade firmware)

Setup - MP3 - Record - E-books - Games (tetris) Movies (movie reel as display pic)

Operating system: Windows 98

Using the dead recovery method, windows has recently recognised the player as a ADFU drive. Step one complete.

Upon installing the what I think is "appropriate" FULL Firware, windows then recognises the player as an FS Drive and instantly puts the drive in my explorer.

Drive details: Type: Removal Disk

File system: FAT

Free Space 2gb

So far so good? That's what I thought.

God knows how many different firmware updates i've tried from many different sites. NONE will work!!

Everytime I upload new firmware to the player, the screen just stays white.

If I Press and hold the menu button, the player will switch on and off, just like it did when it used to work!

So there is life in the player, as the buttons are responding, I just can't seem to get any picture!!!

I found the firmware for the same board ID on another site and thought all my prayers had been answered.

Upon installing the firmware i was prompted with "Invalid firmware upgrade" Which is complete Bull SH@#$ because it's apparently meant to be the EXACT same dump file.

I'm frustrated beyond belief. I only spent $80 AU for the device, but if you calculate the hours i've spent trying to fix it, i've outdone that price in labour costs!

If you're going to reply, I don't want to sound vein, but please dont reply with "have you contacted your manufactorer"? or "Have you followed the dead recovery guide step by step"?

I've done everything, and I mean everything. So If I can't work out a solution in 2 days time, I'll be destroying this cheap imitation and will buy myself an actual IPOD.

Thanks in advance people.

Hey chill man.. Is the dump file you found repaired? You may need to use repair.bat before uploading to your player.

The 1.8" players of your type are not so common yet (mostly are the 1.5" i think), maybe if you hang in there for a little more time, someone might have the firmware dump that you might need.

Sorry about the venting, I'm just frustrated. You think they'd put the original firware on the cd it comes with!

And yes, the dump file had been repaired. Still no success.

GDSGFT, I have no idea how the recovery process works on a Win98, but if you have access to an XP box may have more luck.

I don't see how the operating system would matter. Shouldn't it simply be the appropriate firmware uploaded to its appropriate player?

Anyhow, If I can't fix it in a few days, I'll be more than happy for someone to try it for me on their pc.

If you live in Australia I'll cover postage both ways and also give $40 to whoever can fix it.

I'll let you know how it pans out.

Thanks again.

GDSGFT

After flashing your player with the FULL firmware, straight away FORMAT your player. Then upload it with your backed up firmware (did you make a backup of your firmware?).

Don't trust the firmware on the cd, as manufacturers tend to take the easy and cheap way out by producing masses of the same cd and sending out with all different models.

I think I might have the full FW for this board, PM me if you still need it.

I had a couple of these made for me as samples, the 1.8 nano clone with the same board id, but they shipped with a much different screen than I had ever seen in other players. A very nice screen actually. So it might be hit or miss. Let me know.
