Just a quick question.

I was just wondering, as long as I back up the firmware of my player, do I have a perfect chance of recovering it if it becomes corrupt by updating the firmware? Because I JUST got my new one today, after ditching the old one which I was unable to recover after updating the firmware. I don't want to go through all that again.

Also, would changing the theme of my player possibly damage my firmware? I'm treading carefully now. I want to customised my player, but I just got it today and don't want to destroy it already!

Re: Just a quick question.

The safest way to customise the screens is to use your actual dump file and edit from that file itself. Paying attention to the image files that you save into the S1res are of the same width and height as the original.
Be sure to keep a copy of your original dump file as a backup.

Good luck.

nii, Even if you have a backup you still need to find a suitable full version firmware to load before you can use your dump. There are 12 on site, if none of them work you may have trouble again. As "lattesurf" has rightly said for theming take the time to customize your own firmware you have very little chance of running into problems.

Ok. So I will dump the current stuff onto my comp, edit it myself (possibly using a decompiled existing one) and then put it back into my player. No chance of failure right? =P

There's no need for a full version firmware if I just edit the dump? I thought putting the dump back on the player requires a firmware update though...

Re: Just a quick question.

The problem with changing firmware is that it may not support the components that your player has, board type, LCD, button configuration, boot sequence, recording components, FM chip, speaker etc .... You do not run into these problems using your own firmware.

You need to first extract your firmware from your player using s1fwx.

Then you can change the images using s1res

Then reload your firmware to your player using MP3 Player Utilities Update Tool

And you will find all sorts of theming resources HERE
