Default MP4 Player 1GB 1.5" Ebay item number 290023234663

Please could anyone help me...
The player went dead, could not extract the dump file.
Tried everything, the trick with the screwdrivers works each time the player is dead.
Flashed with different files, most rejected as invalid, few accepted but the screen goes blue.
I have found a file that partially works, the player works but the image is split by a narrow black strip, also the same strip appears at the right side of the screen and the picture appears mirrored(left-right). I understand that dump files can be modified using a program (EasyFW) but I do not know how to use it.
I could not find a similar description and I hope that someone could find a way to repair it, any idea much apreciated and my feedback will follow whathever the outcome.
Thank you in advance. 8)

Sorry, I've forgot to mention:
The screen is splitby a black strip and THE TOP AND THE BOTTOM ARE SWAPPED, THEN THEY ARE MIRRORED left-right.

Hi Solaris. I don't have the answer to your problem but I believe you may be onto something with regard to repairing the firmware that partially works on your player. I would be very interested in having that (partially-working) firmware myself. There is another application apart from EasyFW that can edit firmware files. I have the same problem and a similar-looking MP4 player to yours. If you send me your partly-working firmware, I will try to fix it to try to resolve my own broken player. If I'm successful I will send you the fixed version so you can fix yours.

So, I would be grateful if you could kindly post a link so I can download your partly-working firmware (that shows the mirrored image on screen), or else email it to me at:

gullwng@yahoo.com

Thanks

Gullwing,
Some of the firmware that can be downloaded is not repaired and will give an invalid firmware warning. If you place these ones in the s1fwx folder and run the repair.bat you may be able to use them.

Hi tadad1,
I've tried several files and the program s1fwx can only repair files extracted from player. It does not accept files dragged from other folders. I flashed the player with other files, then extracted and repaired them but no change. There are now three files that I can use and the player works fine apart from the screen.

solaris,
It will only repair files named dump.bin. If it gives an error the file is most likely already repaired.
If you try to load a file and it gives you an invalid firmware warning it may be because it has not been repaired. Some people extract their firmware and load it to site without running the repair.
The way you can tell if a file has been repaired or not is to run the list.bat which lists all the files in the firmware.
An unrepaired firmware will have only 3 Files listed in the info:afi section.

A repaired will have 5 files listed.

Full firmware will have 15 to 20 files listed.

Thank you Tadad1,
I could now play all the files available but no success yet. The only thing "discovered" was an old file(v.3.5.35) just introduced, but the picture is even worse: top and bottom replaced, one mirrored left-right, the other one upsidedown AND left-right.
Is there anything that can be done? Would the program s1res help(btw, there is no download link to it, just a broken one to v.1.6, and PayPal instead of v.1.8)?

solaris, Sorry it is not possible to correct firmware that display flipped or rotated as they are designed for players with specific componenets that require this to happen. Whilst you can extract the images with s1res and manually flip or rotate them within an image editing program you can not change there positioning or the position of text so everything will be out of alignment. This link to s1res works fine for me.

The link works fine for me too, I can download the program, double click on its icon and I get a screen with a button in the middle, on the button is writen:

"PayPal"
"Donate Now"

and below the button a message:

"please click the button and donate some money!"

(btw, I have done it)
