SORTED Lack of memory

Bought an Ipod nano clone off ebay a few weeks ago, and didn't initially notice that there seemed to be a problem with the memory. Having installed some music on to the player it would get about half way through then just reset the player.

I then tried to play the files through media player on my computer and it seemed to be corrupt (and every file after it), so I reformatted my player. After the reformat I moticed that the player was only showing up as having 474MB of memory, not the full 1GB.

I tried upgrading the firmware with various versions and eventually got it to a stage where it wouldn't work at all (black screen). After a few days of fiddling around I have eventually managed to get the player working again but still have only 474MB.

Has anybody had the same problem? If so I would be greatful for any help in recovering the missing memory

Re: Lack of memory

deputy230568, it seems that your player probably is only 512MB in actual real memory. The original 1GB was probably "hacked" memory. This explains for the corrupt files & resetting after the 512MB mark.

To be sure, you will need to open the player and check the memory chip's serial number against the manufacturer's website.

Contact your seller regarding the memory, get a refund or at least some money back.

Have opened the player and the numbers on the chips are as follows:

ATJ2085W
F5183AB 55V (In very small print)

Samsung 622
K9F4G08U0A
PCB0
FUD834XX

deputy230568, Sadly Binh is right, it is a 512MB chip. I posted chip details HERE

As I had feared you are both correct, I have now checked on the Samsung website and it is only a 512MB chip.
I have just contacted the ebay seller in an attempt to get some sort of refund. If I don't get any joy from them I will take up the matter with ebay.
I am really getting fed up with these MP3/4 players from ebay/China, this is the 3rd one that I have had trouble with in the last year. Something needs to be done to make sure these sellers are not selling dodgy players that don't do what they advertise.

Just as a quick follow up, I have contacted the seller and he has refunded some money to be (roughly the difference between a 512MB player and a 1GB, which I didn't think was too bad.
