Mp4 player won`t play videos or images anymore.

Hi I recently bought a 4GB mp4 player from ebay and at first it was working pefectly but after a few minutes of fiddling with it it stopped playing videos and gave me a "format error!" whenever I tried to play a video or image. I believe it has something to do with the a damaged firmware but I`m not sure. The videos I put in it are all amv format.

The current firmware version it has is

Device name: LISONG MP3 Player
Productor: Wilson Co. Ltd.
Version: 9.0.48

Front view of player:

The error that is troubling me :(

Please help!

Re: Mp4 player won`t play videos or images anymore.

If you bought it as a 4GB player the problem is most likely memory chip related.

At present these players only support a maximum of 2GB but some manufacturers hack the chips so that they read much larger than their true size. In some cases 4GB chips have in fact been hacked 128MB chips.
Hacked players tend to run fine for a while but as you start loading more and more files or add and remove files they start playing up, generally with file corruption, player restarts and errors.

Once you start having problems you need to format the player which will remove the hack and your players memory will then read it's true size.
They can however be difficult to format so if you have trouble try this method HERE.

Once you have got the memory reading its true size you should not have any problems.

If you want to verify your memory chips true size you will need to open the player and check the serial number of the chip against THIS list of Samsung and Hynix chips.

UrAnus, Glad it helped :)
2GB was the best outcome some have ended up with a lot less.

Just a word of warning about your firmware though, the 9.0.xx series is quite new and trying to upgrade could cause you problems and at the moment there is no way to create a backup to restore your player.

Hi I just wanted to know is it possible to change the theme with the version I`m using? (9.0.48 )

Thanks in advance!

UrAnus, The problem with the 9.0.xx series firmware is although you can extract it with s1fwx you can not repair it so it will not load back to your player. The only way you can edit one is if you have a Full Version of your firmware. The only place you could get a full version is from the manufacturer or if you are lucky from the person who sold you the player.
Sometimes a copy of the firmware is included on the mini cd but this does not happen often.

Hi, UrAnus
I have the exactly same player. But it's too late -- I already upgraded the firmware even without a backup. The player is dead as you may expected. Though S1FWX can't extract a repairable firmware from the player. I want to have a try, what else can I do to a dead player? UrAnus, can you please extract your firmware and send me a copy to:
sfj_ustc@gmail.com
Thank you very much!
