dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
Ok, all started when I was copying some music on my MP4. After i finished with it I unpluged it, and after that he never worked againg... Crying or Very sad
Usually when u turn it on, display shows sand clock for few seconds, and than he turns on. Now when u turn it on, it also shows clock, but it doesnt change. I left it for 5 hours and the clock was still there. The other thing was when I pluged it in my computer it didnt recognized it like "USB mass storage device", it was recognized like ADFU device. I downloaded all of firmwires from "S1 MP4 player firmwires", and i tryed to install em on my player. The result was "flash write protected error", and my display turned off. Theres nothing on it now. I tryed all others firmwares, on some it says that is wrong firmware, but on all others when upgrading it says that the flash is write protected. I really dont know what to do anymore. My board is ATJ2085W, memory is samsung, pls tell me what should I do! Here is a pic of MP4: http://img.alibaba.com/photo/5108697...MP4_Player.jpg |
Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
Fixxxer , i assume your player can be detected by the Upgrade Tool? You need to try all the firmwares for your screen size available in the downloads section until you get the right one.
You may want to try formatting with the Disk Tool utility first before proceeding with the firmware flashing. |

I think formatting would solve my problem, but i really dont know how to do that... :? |
Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
Fixxxer , try unplugging your player and connecting it to another USB port (preferably 1 that you never connected your player via before).
Also, if you have access to another computer, try your player there. If all else fails and the problem still persists, there is a thread Here that discusses about disabling the write protect setting through windows registry editting. |
Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
Ok, I tryed with another USB ports, I tryed that stuff with registry, I tryed that also on safe mode, and guess what?
Nothing changed. Flash write protected again! Now tell me is there any way to format my player while in ADFU mode, or hardware format with screwdriver or somethin like that. Any kind of formatting??? Tell me also what firmware should be ideal for it. Or just tell me what to do couse I am screwed... :x  |
Fixxxer, You could try downloading Product Tool it has an erase flash option that may help.

Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
I already tryed it. Nothing happens, no use from that.
Got any other solution? |
Fixxxer, I have been doing a bit of research, It appears that some people have overcome this problem by keeping the play button pressed while plugging in and upgrading the firmware. If it does not work with the play button then try each button one at a time.
Another suggestion was disconnect the battery cross the chip and keep crossed while connecting USB. |

Fixxxer,
Sorry I thought you had used the Dead Player Recovery Guide. Basically when a player dies and is not detected by windows and the upgrade tool the player must be opened and the memory chip has to be shorted by crossing some of the pins. This resets the memory chip. Look at the Guide http://www.mympxplayer.org/dead-play...ide-vt567.html The information on a write protected ADFU Device was that the battery needs to be disconnected so that there is no power going to the chip. The pins of the memory chip then need to be crossed while the player is being connected to USB. http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/351...led1zf9fz1.jpg |

Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
cmon guys, help me, I am desperate :?
|
Fixxxer, I have lost count of the number of player I have recoverd but have never had this problem so unfortunatly have no experience in fixing the write protect issue. All the info I have been able to find I have passed on to you, at this stage I have found nothing new to add.

Meaby I failed to do that stuff with pins of the memory. Do I have to touch 2 or more of em or all 8 together or how? :? |
Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
And can u please upload me firmware that works 100% on my player?
|
Fixxxer, No I just want you to know that you are not being ignored but I have no more ideas to throw at you.
My method of shorting the chip is a little differrent . I us a pair of metalic tweezers and cross the chip from side to side at the first pin and then drag the tweezers down all pins. http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/52/cimg1530fy5.jpg |
Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
Fixxxer, nobody in this forum is able to verify which firmware is compatible with which player, not you, not me, not the admin and moderator.
You might want to contact your seller and see if they have a some firmwares to send to you. |
Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
And while doing that u must connect it to the USB or what? What about battery? Should I unweld it again?
How many times do I have to cross down with tweezers? |
Fixxxer, I leave the battery connected and have the player plugged into the usb. In most cases once is enough but occasionally I may have to repeat the process 2 or 3 times.

what now? :? |
Fixxxer, It is supposed to go to ADFU Mode because you have reset the chip, Can you load a full version firmware to it though or is it still write protected?
|
It is still write protected. I can succesfully install new firmware but only when I am holding the tweezers on some combinations of pins. Problem is that its same like i havent installed the new firmware. The screen is black again, and its in adfu mode as usual...
|
Fixxxer,
Sorry I have run out of ideas, I am stumped as to why the chip has become write protected. What happens if you go into device manager select the ADFU device and try to install it as a usb mass storage device. |

Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
Fixxxer,
I had a write protection problem too and solved it, maybe it will work for you : when I saw that my player had 0 kb of capacity, I tried to format it, it worked, and after that, I tried to update the firmware : it was successfull. (sorry for my english) |
Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
Fixxxer , now that your player is working again, don't ever flash in another firmware again. Or you might go through the hair-pulling task of what you have went through.
How did you solve the write protect anyway? |
I am glad man that your player is working again :) :)
SO nice to hear. Well you mean if you wanted to download better software ? No... It will not make your player better, I t depends what player you buy... not on the firmware |
Re: dead chinese MP4 (flash write protected - problem)
I screwed it again, its mechanicly dead now :D
The display wont turn on, and its not recognized by the windows :D What did I do? I pressed and holded pins of memory here with my finger (u can lick it with tongue, not necessarily :P): http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4846/52qdsr1.jpg while holding it i runned upgrade software tool, and it worked  shame i screwed something while welding my battery back to its place, it will never work again it seems... |
Fixxxer, What happened?
