Default chiPod Nano "4 GB" Lisong LSD_9101_11

To start things off.. thanks for a great site

A) I recently "won" a 4 GB black iPod Nano copy from a Chinese eBay dealer. Yesterday I put about 3.5 gb worth of mp3s on there, I went through my whole collection of about 35 gb worth of songs and handpicked the best ones. (Took me hours and hours.) I then turn the mp3 player on to listen, and to my surprise, I have only 162 songs on there.

I plug it back to USB and check Explorer.. and it was really weird, I got up until about the letter E or so, and the last 20 songs or so (in the alphabetical order) were showing as duplicates of about 5-7 each. As in, I had 7 "Beatles - Yellow Submarine.mp3" or whatever the song names were. All identical sizes and dates.

I format the player in Explorer, and for kicks and giggles also check the drive for errors, and start re-adding songs again.

Of course the shit happens again. I e-mail the eBay seller and she tells me "Hello, Thanks for your Question. Please Download new 3.xx software from www.mympxplayer.org. regards,"

It was then I discovered the fact that my 4 GB player, was in fact, not 4 GB.

To my first question, which maybe isn't in the right place in the forum.. But how can they "get away" with this? Won't every single person who orders one wonder why they can only fit 1-2 gb worth of data on their players?

I haven't taken it apart yet, but I intend to soon, to check which chip it is that I have. I did notice though, that after about 950 megs of songs is when it started acting up and creating duplicates.

The weird thing is though, that it's never ever showed any signs of being less than 3.95 gb, when formatting and checking the properties and such.
The other people I've read about went to format theirs and it magically changed sizes on them, it's never done that for me.

B) After trying to upgrade my firmware with various files, I ended up with a blue screen, and have yet to be able to get it back to the way it was. Windows Explorer will NOT recognize it, but the computer automatically found the USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device, I never had to open it and do the tweezers thing.

I have tried the different full firmwire files listed in the Tutorial, but nothing happens, it just says "Invalid upgrade firmware file". BUT.. In the log file, the last log is "3.5.37v2.1b FM.fw 2006-11-23 16:51 V3.0.00 Success"
But the player still doesn't work? Every single file in the log says V3.0.00 no matter what the version I tried was.

C) Right as I'm typing this I got an e-mail from the seller offering me 2 USD in a partial refund, or a total refund if I mail it back to China. Those f'n bastards, I know I will never see my money!!! Time to file a complaint with eBay..

Actually, forget replying, I got pissed off and threw it across the room and now the screen looks like a lavalamp. But I'm sending it back just the way it is to China, I'll keep you updated about my refund.

Hello SwishaSwede!

I have almost exactly the same story as you

"Windows Explorer will NOT recognize it, but the computer automatically found the USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device, I never had to open it and do the tweezers thing." (I have also checked the guide).

Unfortunatelly the "Dead Player Recovery Guide" does not seem to help with this kind of player (I suppose you got the same as on the picture?):

Somebody in this forum, who knows how to get this player detected in Windows XP, if you have got the blue screen?
Would be great if I could get it to work properly again.

Thankful for any tip!

Well, my player does also show a blue screen and can be seen as 'USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device' in device manager.

But the problem is I can NOT find it at "My Computer" like in this picture (no player here, right):

Do you see your player/moveable disc in "My computer" too??
