FW update not working
I've been having this problem for over 2 months with my player and have to fix it myself since the seller i got it from is unreliable. The player hasn't worked since i got it so might as try and get this problem fixed myself.
Its a Nano 1.5 clone Samsung 616K9K8G08U0APCB8 ATJ2085H MP693 CSL MAIN V1.3 2005.12.14 when i run the Upgrade Tool a messgae pops up saying "Read or write device informtion failed! Please exit the program and check if the device is connecting!" Sure enough, the device is connected and is still in ADFU recovery mode. But in the Upgrade Log at the bottom of the screen, it says that 3.5.37 dump.bin was successful. So what should i do to fix this? I was also told that my pins might need to be resoldered to the memory chip. Does anyone have a tutorial or walkthrough to suggest how i do that because i'm lost. |
kingv, If your player is in ADFU mode then it is in Recovery and will not accept a dump.bin file you must load a full version firmware. Once the full version is loaded then you will be able to load your dumps. the full version firmware does not have to be the exact one but it will prepare the player to receive dumps. There is a section in the Downloads for Full Version Firmware. Find one that is the same version number and screen size as your player.
"Read Write fail" could be a loose connection on your memory chip try placing a few layers of thin card on top of your memory chip and then close the player. The idea is to create a small amount of even pressure on the chip to improve connection. You need to place enough thickness of card so that when the player is closed the cover will press the card against the memory chip. Other members have also reported that the upgrade tool can get hung up in a loop, uninstalling MP3 Player Utilities and installing a different version and try again. |
Re: FW update not working
Ok, thanks for the info! I downloaded the 3.5.37 full firmware and 3.5.35 dump bin that i found in the downloads section here. I even took my player apart again and applied a steady pressure to the memory chip. When i uploaded the filmware it loaded successfully. But the bin file is giving me some problems still. An error message appears.
But after i turn off the player and look at the Upgrade Tool log, it states that the fw and dump were a success. However it's still recognized as an ADFU Device by my computer but i do get a blue screen now. So i guess that's some improvement. Should i use a different bin file? What else could i try? |
kingv, Try another full version firmware until you find one that takes your player out of recovery mode and allows your player to be recognised by Windows as a Removable Device. Once you have chieved that format your player then try loading dump files.

Re: FW update not working
I tried all of the 3.5.37/35 fw i could find on this and s1mpg.org and still no change. The player is still in ADFU mode. And the blue screen is still there, although that does go out from time to time.
Anymore suggestions or helpful links to fw? |
kingv, I doubt the problem is with the firmware. If you have tried all the full version firmware for the 2085 and none of them have taken your player out of recovery mode then there is a problem with the upgrade process.
Lets try some thing different. Go to the MP3 Player Utilities folder then go to the RDisk Update folder. If there is a folder named recover delete it. Create a new folder named recover. Select one of the full version firmware and place it in the recover folder then rename it $actsdk$.fw. Be sure you use a full Version Firmware not a dump. Connect your player and wait a few seconds for it to connect then open the upgrade tool. Now there should already be upgrade firmware information in the second window, do not select a new firmware just press the upgrade button. Now hopefully this will bring your player out of recovery mode. If it does not try the same process with a different Full Version Firmware. If your player continues to be stuck in recovery mode uninstall the MP3 Player Utilities and install a different version and repeat the above process. |
Re: FW update not working
kingv , there is another list of firmware downloads compiled by Kivin Here.
Some are in Russian language and other languages though. Hope you'll find a compatible firmware soon. |
