wilson 1gb digital mp4 player will not recharge

hello. as far as i cant tell , this is an mp4 wilson digital player with 9.0.48 firmware. i just got it 4 days ago. in the instruction manual, it says POWER MUST BE OFF to charge. i was reading many of these other threads about players not charging, and they were given advice to turn the player ON to charge the battery. which is right? anyway i tried usb charging for 12 hours, overnight in the wall charger for hours.... etc etc power on power off. did i kill the battery to prevent it from charging somehow?

dopefisher11 , generally all these players have 2 ways of powering on/off. One is by the main mechanical switch, the other is by pressing and holding the Play button to switch between on/off.
The instructions book is very ambigious, but in most cases the main mechanical switch must be slide into the the On position so that charging will take place.

In your case, does the player actually turn on?
When you disconnect the USB cable or AC adaptor, does the player switches off?

dopefisher11, The player should be turned on while recharging. To avoid battery damage try to avoid prolonged usage of the wall charger 3-4 hours at a time should be enough. If possible a USB port recharge is better.

Does you player run ok when plugged into the USB port?
Has the battery ever recharge properly?
If you can get hold of one try a differrent USB cord.
Failing that the battery may be old or damaged.

hey thanks for your quick and knowledgeable replies. it DOES work when i plug it in to the usb port. it also shows as charging. it no longer even shows as charging using the wall charger. however i just tore it all apart, and i guess i'll have to sodder the battery back on.

dopefisher11 , from what you mentioned, it is likely the battery is old/damaged and does not hold its charge.
i'll suggest that you either contact your seller for a replacement set or buy a replacement battery if it too troublesome/expensive to send the player back.

ok my friend let me use his expensive battery tester, and we confirmed that this battery is completely dead now. is it possible to recharge it? btw he soldered it back on for me too and it is "charging" in the usb port as i type this.

ok one more thing. the battery i have now is 3.7v 250 mAh. do i NEED 250 mAh for it to function properly? the ipod nano batteries i am finding are either 330 mAh or 400 maAH. also, i guess i can give up trying to find one that fits in this tiny little excuse for a case. :P
