mp3/4 player and firmware problems

just to give you an update i managed to extract the firmware from my freinds using your guide and sf1wx program repaired the dump file successfully...now i have loaded some full firmware from your download section+the one i repaired i am getting a blue screen which if i look at on a angle i can just make out a few icons and can scroll through them however not clear enough to read..does this mean i am getting close?...is the 1st firmware incorrect?...if you think this may be the case is there one u think i should try or is it possible to extract the full firmware form my freinds without damaging it...just one other point windows explorer is only seeing the drive as 233mb...the details of the chip etc are in my first post...thanks again and again and again

jaynick, Memory loss after formating or upgrading is usually a sign that your players chip was hacked now the partition has changed and the hack has been removed and the chip may be reading it's true size, I would guess 256MB minus firmware space. This however conflicts a bit with the chip serial number you quoted in your first post. On Samsung chips the 4&5th characters denote the chips density in your case 2G which is 2gigabits or 128MB. A 256MB chip should have a density code of 4G.
The blue screen could be a few different issues. Your friends player may be using a different screen type to your player and so the LCD drivers in the firmware is not compatible. It could also be a problem with your LCD panel or that the firmware has not loaded properly. I suggest installing MP3 Player Utilities 4.07, some improvements were made to the upgrade tool in this version for newer players. Some members have posted that firmware that gave them a blue screen worked after being installed with this version.

just rechecked the serial on the chip it does say 2g as oppose to 4g...it gets worse..ie: it could even be smaller..i have got utilities 4.07 installed but i have also got 3.68 installed the reason for this is 4.07 keept saying something like connection lost recheck connection..however i found that if i used 3.68 the firmware would go on ok... if this is only a 128mb im not sure its worth pissing about with,,,perhaps the two softwares are conflicting with each other.. any other sugestions more than welcome of course.....im am begining to think i have given it my best shot perhaps it time to cut me losses and go to argos..but on the other hand i am so determined to get the thing to work..

jaynick, argos brings back good memories I remember buying heaps of stuff there 20 years ago when I was living just outside of Oxford. I thought it was great shopping from a catalogue. I still have a Goodman CD player I bought from there. lol.

Try 4.0, you will have to uninstall 4.07 to try it but that had improvements over 3.68.

Because they are all made by 100's of little cutthroat manufacturers there are so many variables between firmware and players that there is no consistant guidelines for these things. After 6 players I ended up getting a 4Gb Meizu M6, one manufacturer, one firmware, regular upgrades, no hacks and fakes, no headaches.

just to give you guys an update....complained to ebay and to paypal about the hacked player and managed to get a full refund from paypal.......result anyway thanks for all your help especially TADAD 1. and just to say this site is excellent.. i just wish i had come across it before bidding on that player!!!!!!!!!!! Should have gone to argos hey tadad 1.....lol :lol: :lol: :lol:
