If you link the relation between the hacked memory chips and providing support for these players. I guess you would be able to see a very distinct relationship.
Those manufacturers don't give a sh*t about happy or unhappy customers. They are more interested in selling their players at the highest price and thats it.
Selling with hacked chips increases the selling price.
To provide support (eg customer support or firmware updates) would cost money, and i guess they are not very interested in anything that costs money.
But back to this thread's point, i guess there isin't anyone in this forum who is able to spend the time or the knowledge to redo the firmware.
However, there is the Swan Project by s1mp3.org and they are into this now. But it has been quite awhile and not much progress so far.
