yeah lez I think your right about the batteries in these players. I got mine working fine again now. I just left it off for a day and now its working perfect. Maybe I had overcharged the battery a bit? Don't really know alot about it.

ahh i get it..be careful of using the term dead..the "DEAD" term used in this forum generally means the players firmware isnt working anymore and the computer cannot recognize the player as a USB device.(completely useless)..i mis-understood the term dead on your post... you may instead use the term dead battery..at least its more specific.. just an advice.... you might confuse others who are trying to help..sorry for annoying you..

lol yeah I see what you mean about people using the word 'dead' when what they should say is ''I killed it''

I cant say tha all these firmware deaths are user error as the units are so generic that a firware looks like it should work and then doesnt, but then its too late.

I once killed a dvd player with a firmware update and it was my own fault, I started the flash procedure, then the screen went blank after about 10 seconds and the unit opened the dvd tray, I switched it off and back on, dead, I'd killed it. why? if I had read _all_ the instructions you should turn it off and back on _after_ the draw has opened....and closed.

I am not a god............

Lez , from the symptoms, likely i think the player has blown some components for the charging regulator circuit.

Yup thats my estimated guess, just have not bothered to strip it, as I'm also guessing the charge switching transistor will be 'on chip' and even if a real transistor, will be surface mount, about 1mm square, and impossible to read the number off.

repair costs in time and trouble are more than what the unit is worth to me.

At least I won 3 more genius vizo's off ebay.

All arrived non-working, all 'untested' customer returns (obviously the seller had idea how to push the power button or plug in a usb cable)

All fixed in an hour, most common fault with these is the previous owners drops it and it stops working, or even rattles - the cure - open it up and plug the ram back in.........

I posted this in another part of the forum, but it's probably worth repeating. A nano clone I recently repaired for a friend had the most minimal charging circuit imaginable, and in no way was it adequate to safely charge a LIPO cell.

I strongly suggest that you disconnect the charger as soon as the battery is charged, as there is no automatic cut off as such (at least not on the unit I was examining) and LIPO cells are well know for their exciting failure modes i.e. "vent with flame". The problem is made worse by the poor quality of many Chinese cells.

FWIW the problem with the unit unit I repaired might be the same as the one mentioned in this thread. There is a large cut out in the PCB to make space for the cell, and the small pcb section that remains is very flexible. One of the two charger components (a 1.5 Ohm 0805 surface mount resistor) had the silvering ripped off one end from the board flexing. Wiggling the USB connector would put enough charge in the battery for the unit to briefly wake up. I replaced the resistor and normal operation was restored.
