Dead 1,5"MP4 Player 2nd Gen
 

Hi,

I have got a new MP4 Player "4GB" (I don't know the real capacity) 2nd Generation from the "MP3 MP4" company Hong Kong.

The problem is that the USB Hub cannot detect the player so I cannot put another firmware on it. So what shall I do now? Can anybody help me?

f.9torres , try connecting the player directly to the USB port rather than via a USB hub.

the usb port cannot detect it so i have to screw it on but it is a 2nd Generation Mp4 Player (like the new iPod nano) so I do not know how to screw it on.

f.9torres , i don't really get what you mean by "screw it on"? Does your player use a normal USB cable which plugs into the player directly?

The problem is that I cannot open the Mp4 Player like in the Recovery Guide because it is a 2nd Generation and it is closed. It has nothing to do with the USB cable. I cannot open the unit.

Do you know now what i mean?

f.9torres , oh ok. There are 2 types of locking mechanism i know of for these kinds of casings.

The first type would be there is a screw hidden either at the top (where the On/Off switch is) or the bottom (where the USB socket is).

You need to pry the top plastic layer off, and usually they will just double-side tape it down, so won't be difficult to lift it off.

Once the the layer is off, the screw would be visible. Unscrewing it would allow the front and back casing to slide open. If it does not open, there might be another screw to open at the bottom, or else there are latches around the casing, which is explained below.

Another type of lock would be the use of latches. For such players, it is usually held together with latches between the front and back casings. Worst case would be they actually glued the 2 casings together.

However, try using a thin blade or metal and gently pry around the gap between the front and back, to locate the latches.

These latches usually need to have slight pressure applied directly for it to release. But be very careful as it is very easy to break them.

thanks I could open it. After that I tried to make a connection, but nothing happened (only the screen flackered) so I started dragging the tweezers down all pins but then nothing worked any more. The screen didn't flacker and it was only black.
Is this shit now dead for ever?
Can I do anything against it?

f.9torres, It may be dead for good, I have one player that is the same, shows no signs of life at all. The only other possiblity is to use a JD-ICE device to hard flash the firmware directly to the chip. Not something I have tried but if you have any electronic knowledge may be a good project.
