Default MP4 player locked w/blue screen and hourglass-pls help!

I have had this player for less than a week and it seems to be locked up. Here is the description of events.
Player is locked up with a blue screen and a locked hourglass. This happened the day before it permanently locked up. When I plugged it into the USB port of my computer the first time, it seemed to have freed the player up. Computer recognized the removable drive and everyhting worked fine. The next day, the player locked up again. Plugged it into the computer again. This time the computer did not recognize the player but pulled up the "new hardware" pop up. Looked at the USB port on the system and it stated the driver was not configured correctly. Tried to use the disc utilities which came with the player. When clicking on the disc utilities, I get the following message, "Not detected removable disk! Please check disk connecting, or reboot system!" I have used this disk before for video coonversion on this player and the disk seems to be working properly, just not this particular selection.

I don't know what the firmware is to this player and I frankly don't know where to find it. I took the player's back cover off and here is the information on the large black chip:

Samsung 646
K9G8G08U0N
PCB0
FEJD44P2

I also noticed there was a piece of masking tape on the silver portion of the cover.

I have looked at other posts on this forum about locked players with a blue screen/locked hourglass. One states do an extraction, repair, reflash. I frankly don't know how to do this...please note my username.

If someone can help me recover this player, I would appreciate it!

Here is a pic of the player. I bought mine off ebay and this is a pic of the same model player I bought off ebay. I did not buy it from the link provided. It is the exact same model/1GB:

technodummy , that chip is the memory chip. You will need to locate the 2nd largest chip, the serial should be either ATJ2085, ATJ2091, ATJ2097, etc.

If it is ATJ2085, you have a better chance of recovering your player as it uses firmware v3.5.35 or v3.5.37.

If it is ATJ209* series, then your available firmwares are very limited as the extraction tool only supports upto v9.0.43.

You will need to perform the Dead Player Recovery here http://www.mympxplayer.org/dead-play...ide-vt567.html
Then use the firmwares found in the downloads section to test on your player.

It is ATJ2093H. Options? Still perform the dead player recovery? If so, any firmware in the downloads to recommend?

technodummy , install the MP3 Utilities, and start the Upgrade Tool. If it does not detect your player, then you will need to perform the Dead Player Recovery Guide.

When your player is detected, then you can start trying all the v9.0.xx firmwares. http://www.mympxplayer.org/actions-9...mare-dc37.html
Your player would be using the v9.0.xx series firmwares, so try everything in there.

As currently the firmware extraction tool does not support any versions above v9.0.43, you might not be able to recover your player as there is a very limited number of firmwares uploaded by other members.

Making progress. Here is an update:

Two things are going on. Upgrade tool is recognizing player. Upgraded with firmware LSC_91N003_20_2006-12-27_9.0.50

Player is now recognized and is showing all files (songs) in the player in the removable drive connected with USB. However, only blue screen appears on the player. No menus. Just blank blue screen. Files are there, just can't access them from the player.

There are other firmware files I have downloaded however, only .bin files are recognized by the upgrade tool. The .rar files are not recognized so this severly limits my firmware options.

Any way to get my upgrade tool to recognize the .rar files? Am I doing something wrong? I FEEL I AM SO CLOSE WITH THIS!

Thanks!

technodummy , you need to use winrar to unpack the .rar files. They are compressed files like winzip. You can get winrar either from download.com or winrar.com.

Well, it has happened. The player is totally dead. Pop up box comes up and states: "One of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it". It's not even recognized as a USB device, just an "unknown device". Dead player recovery stops at the Hardware Update Wizard because it is not recognized as a USB device any longer.

For those of you just going through all of the 9xx firmwares, beware of LSD_9316_0_2006-12-31_9.0.50.BIN This is the one that totally hosed the player. At least the player was recognized, the firmware was able to be updated and all of my songs were still on it. The only thing that was not corrected was the fact I had a blue screen. All up until this firmware was loaded.

I am deeply disappointed after all I have been through to try to recover this player.
