dado74 , when the Upgrade Tool detects your player, you only need to flash in various Firmware Dumps to test.
Only when Upgrade Tool does not detect your player, then you perform the Dead Player Recovery and install the ADFU and now you need to flash in a Full Firmware, followed by a Firmware Dump. Following this, keep testing with various other Firmware Dumps.
For the Flash Not Responding error, try using another version of MP3 Utilities, there are many versions available in the downloads section.
