PC will not recognise my player anymore

Bought a cheapo MP3/4 player off ebay. Everything was working fine. XP detected it fine and I could play mp3's and converted amv's etc.

The player still works fine in that respect and plays the files on the memory. However Not one PC will recognise it any more. I can't access the player and it doesn't show up in My computer or device manager :(

I have NOT touched the firmware since I have had the player (currently - LSD_9101_20 2006-10-21 9.0.50 2005-01-09)

I plug the player into the pc (any pc) and the player itself shows the 'connected to pc' picture. I plug it into the charger and it charges.

I have even tried the recover a dead player procedure which did nothing for the player.

Please let there be someone who can help :?

mashimo , you'll need to try all the v9.0.xx series firmwares here http://www.mympxplayer.org/actions-9...mare-dc37.html

As there is no way of telling which firmware would work properly with yours, i'll suggest that try all those for your screen size.

If still none works, you might want to contact your seller for an exchange or refund.

Re: Help please

I cant get access to the player itself. No PC will detcet the player. The usb lead seems to work as the player tells me it connected to a PC or that it is charging and does charge it. So I cant access it to flash it with new firmware :( I have now tried to update the firmware using the player itself (I'll post pics of it when I get home tonight, with more details), when I chose update firmware it doesnt do anything just stays on the menu :x

I guess you get what you pay for when you buy cheap copies. Maybe the £20 would have been better put towards a reall Apple iPod

UPDATE.

Fiddled about a bit and I can get my work computer (xp pro fully updated & sp2) to 'USB device not recognised' & 'A problem occured duing installation, your new hardware might not work properly'

I can get my home pc to do the latter too.

However still nothing in My Computer.

The quest continues.........

mashimo,

How long have you had this player?
Is it still under warranty?
If you haven't touched it and all of a sudden doesn't get detected on your computer, I would say it's a hardware problem and you should get it sorted under warranty if you can. You can spend time trying to fix it, but it comes down to the physical hardware that's the fault (ie, the board or memory chip is faulty), then chances are you won't be able to fix it.

I've had a player like that before. It would 'look' like it's getting detected, but never showed up in Windows or get detected. I just swapped it under warranty as it shouldn't do that.

Re: PC will not recognise my player anymore

Cant even get the bloody thing to turn on now

Doubt its under a warranty as I got it off ebay. I have emailed the seller requesting some after sales help, but nothing. Going by the really bad feedback on his last sales, looks like he's dumped that usernam and moved on to another to rip people off. Mp3_exp =http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=mp3_exp&ftab=Al lFeedback

When I bought it I didnt expect it to be as good as the real thing, but I guess keepin the money and buying an original would have been better.

You live and learn!

Re: PC will not recognise my player anymore

 Its back on again now. And the USB connected PC is charging it. Still no appearance in my computer yet, then again the unrecognised usb device prompt has stopped. :?

Going to try and source a new cable, unless anybody has a spare or one I can borrow (would be willing to cover postage and return)

Re: PC will not recognise my player anymore

SOLUTION

Maybe :?

Trawling through Microsoft suport site. I have found that there is a problem with SP2 used on XP Pro/Home and the detection of USB devices. It doesnt look like there is a general rule as to what devices its having problems with, as it can be anything.

There is a 'Hotfix' available direct from Microsoft. It is still in testing apparently but can be obtained by request. They also advise that this may not solve the problem, and to wait untill the next available SP which will contain a permanent fix to the problem. Which is what I will probably do, as I am sick of this cheap crap. And then just give it to my kid.

Im going out to buy the real deal and not try and save a few quid buying crap like this again.

Well mines sorted. We had a toy digital camera in the house with the same type of USB lead. Better quality than the crap that came with the fake nano  Worked 1st time and still is

mashimo,

Some USB cables are abit dodgy and when you have problems like this, it's best to try a few things first like changing the USB cable or connecting it to another computer/USB port just in case that's the issue.

Glad to see you have the problem solved though.

Hi Mashimo,

I am having the same problem with my uxcell MP3/MP4 player. My computer says it does not recognise the USB device. It worked once and I got 6 songs onto it but I am now stuck as to what to do. Can you help please?

libbyuno , try using another USB cable. Usually the Windows message of "not recognising USB device" is a result of a faulty USB cable.
