8gb Ipod Nano. Help needed.

Greetings folks. I recently encourged my girlfriend to purchace an ipod clone off ebay ... one of the "8gb" varietys.
http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/pict/130096044024_1.jpg

It worked okay the first time I plugged it in.

I removed a folder that was full of Chinese text (backing it up first of course incase it ballsed it up) and ever since it gave the problem that many users have been experiencing, the fabled Hourglass of Death.

I was going to send it back till I read the how to on shorting the chip and reinstalling the firmware. So I followed all the instructions to the T (it's pretty simple I know my way round a circuit board) and I'm stuck at a point many frustrated folks have had problems with. No matter how many times I short the chip and refer the installer to the AdfuUpdate.inf file (both in the windows folder, the mp3 utilities directory [ the one supplied and updated version ]) and keep getting :

"The specified location does not contain information about your hardware"

I've seen that many people have experienced this problem and I've had a good look through the forums for any fix someone might have tried to solve this and it seems to me that this is the end of the line.

I've plugged the player into 4 different USB slots and 3 different computers (2xp and a vista machine) with no luck.

Since I've removed the warrenty sticker from over the bottom screw I think my chances of getting a refund are pretty slim.

If anyone has come up with a solution to this problem I would be more than eternally grateful.

Thanks,
Munt.

Munt , are refering to the installation of the ADFU? Try this ADFU system files here http://www.mympxplayer.org/driver-ad...les-df364.html

Re: 8gb Ipod Nano. Help needed.

Thanks for the quick response man. I already had AdfuUpdate.inf from various sources, but I downloaded that one anyways to give it a blast ... Unfortunately it throws up the same response to my "USB Device" :

"The specified location does not contain information about your hardware"

I've no idea what else I can do.

It might actually proove more fulfilling to throw it into the sea ... but I'll stick at it. I'm currently looking around to see if anyones got a copy of windows 98 for me to connect it to. None of my mates have a PC dusty enough though.

Peace,
Munt.

Grettz man....hey, was your buer sevenmp4?
OK no panic, I had exactly the same problem with my player.
So raise a paypal complaint because

1.your player was not shipped from UK
2.your memory s not 8gb but 2gb

=> item significantely not as described

good luck mano

It's not the same seller but yes ... its 2gb compressed memory as opposed to 8 and it was advertised as coming from london but came from hong kong.

I'm filing a dispute now.

Thanks for the advise.

I have one of these but its 4gig. Anyway, what worked for mine was replacing the USB lead.
